My Perfect Omega - Chapter 139
“Rose, that’s Daddy’s cravat. Don’t put it in your mouth.”
“Bababa!”
Hearing Lucas’s playful voice, Philip shuddered as if he’d heard something he shouldn’t have. Raising his head from the documents, he squinted at the scene before him, which seemed out of place in the office.
Philip and the others in the office tried to ignore the unusual sight of Lucas playing with Rosalie. Although it wasn’t fitting for the office, the father and daughter’s appearance was too charming to criticize.
The afternoon sunlight made their platinum blonde hair shine even more brilliantly than gold.
Lucas laughed, delighted even as Rosalie tugged at his cravat.
“Do you know how surprised and delighted I was when you first opened your eyes?”
Through Rosalie, Lucas had learned that newborns don’t open their eyes right away, and he had anxiously awaited that moment, hoping she would take after Leila.
Gazing into Rosalie’s sparkling jewel-like eyes, he let out a sigh of admiration. The sight caused Philip and the other aides, who were buried in their papers, to lift their heads in unison.
They too were mesmerized by Rosalie’s large eyes, and one of them couldn’t help but murmur,
“She’s going to cause more trouble than His Grace.”
“What did you say?”
Lucas’s sharp ears caught the soft murmur. Startled, the young aide looked around in panic, but Lucas gently encouraged him,
“I’m just curious, so speak honestly.”
Glancing at Philip for approval, the young aide gathered his courage and shared his thoughts with Lucas.
“Your Grace’s presence is formidable, but Miss Rosalie’s is even more so. Even as a baby, she captures everyone’s attention.”
“Hmm.”
Lucas wasn’t sure how to feel. He was displeased that someone already saw his daughter that way, but as a parent, the thought that she might surpass him in impact was not entirely unwelcome.
Seeing no immediate response, the young aide jumped up and bowed deeply.
“I apologize if I’ve offended you!”
Philip also stood and apologized.
“I will train them better, Your Grace.”
“…It’s fine.”
Unable to admit that he was pleased by the praise for his daughter, Lucas pretended to overlook the misunderstanding.
Feeling better, he patted Rosalie’s cute bottom as she continued to chew on his cravat.
“Daddy said not to chew on that, Rose. If Mommy finds out, only Daddy will get scolded.”
Just as he tried to take the cravat from Rosalie’s mouth, a gentle knock resonated through the office. The atmosphere instantly tensed.
All the aides bowed their heads, and Philip quickly gathered his documents and stood up.
“I’ll just check the pantry for a moment. I’ll get the door on my way out.”
Speaking swiftly, Philip hurried to the door, opening it quickly.
“Is our little Rose here?”
Leila’s bright smile greeted Philip as she asked. With a slightly stiff face, he answered respectfully. Though they weren’t officially married, Leila was as good as the Duchess of Bavenberg, and Philip didn’t want to offend her.
“Yes, Madam.”
“Excuse me for a moment.”
As soon as she received the expected answer, she walked in gracefully.
“Lucas.”
Hearing her soft call, Lucas stood up, still holding Rosalie.
“…You’re here?”
“How many times have I told you not to bring Rosalie to the office, no matter how much you want to see her?”
Lucas, who had taken Rosalie from her nanny while Leila entertained a guest, had no excuse. Leila disapproved of him bringing Rosalie to the office, worrying it would disrupt the atmosphere and expose her to the stale air and stacks of paper.
After multiple warnings against it, she decided it was time to correct his behavior once and for all.
“Give her to me.”
Leila’s firm command left Lucas no choice but to hand over their daughter, even though he wanted to keep her with him all day. There was too much work to do as the Duke, especially after delaying so much during Leila’s pregnancy.
“Amamamma!”
“Why is she so drooly?”
Seeing Rosalie’s shiny lips, Leila murmured to herself. Knowing he’d be in trouble if she realized Rosalie had been chewing on his cravat, Lucas discreetly tucked it inside his shirt.
Wiping Rosalie’s lips with a handkerchief, Leila spoke sternly to Lucas.
“Keep postponing your work, and I’ll have no choice but to take action.”
