My Perfect Omega - Chapter 141
“Oh, my Rose! How can I leave you behind!”
Lucas said sorrowfully as he embraced Rosalie. To an outsider, it might seem like they had been apart for a long time. Leila, standing beside him, let out a small sigh unnoticed by anyone else.
“Dad, I’m six years old now. I can manage on my own!”
“Rose…”
Rather than feeling proud of Rosalie’s spirited response, Lucas felt a pang of sadness.
“The daughter who couldn’t even fall asleep without me…”
Leila whispered to Lucas, who was trembling and expressing his sorrow with his whole body.
“It’s not just us here, Honey.”
In the greenest summer, the imperial palace announced an unusual event on a grand scale. The event was an invitation for noble children of the Camorr Empire, aged five to seven, to the imperial palace.
The purpose was to directly teach the children etiquette and culture at the palace and to promote harmony among the future central figures of the nobility.
But those who knew the true essence of the event knew there was more to it.
“With your grand-uncle and uncle here, what is there to worry about?”
The Emperor, standing behind them, said with a look of disbelief. He was eager to send Lucas off quickly.
Every time Lucas was invited to the palace just so the Emperor could see his great-niece who was now six years old, Lucas had coldly refused. The Emperor, thinking he had spoiled his only nephew too much, eagerly accepted the Crown Prince’s brilliant suggestion.
If it was difficult to bring Rosalie alone to the palace, why not bring all the noble children together? The former would be a personal request, while the latter would be an imperial decree.
The Emperor, having privately abused his power, gestured to Lucas to leave without a trace of guilt on his face.
“The other children will be uncomfortable. Go back like the other parents, Duke, go on!”
“His Majesty is right, Lucas.”
Lucas looked at the Crown Prince, who was siding with the Emperor, with displeasure. It might seem like an impudent act to others, but it was cleverly concealed so no one could see his gaze.
To those unaware of the situation, it looked like noble family members engaging in a friendly conversation.
Leila, who had been quietly watching, smiled as she saw her daughter holding hands with the Crown Prince and running off. While she too cherished Rosalie, she opposed Lucas’s overprotectiveness.
“Honey, this is the imperial palace, what is there to worry about?”
“Of course! My niece-in-law is right. It’s the safest place in the Camorr Empire, yet you’re worried about everything.”
“…Do you think I don’t understand what His Majesty and the Crown Prince are thinking? Just wait and see.”
Had Leila not been present, he would have intended to speak even more rudely, but he held back his anger and requested,
“Do not teach Rosalie court language! Unless you want her to be told she sounds like an old lady.”
“…Let’s go, Honey.”
Knowing what her husband meant, Leila quickly grabbed his sleeve and pulled him away in embarrassment. Having finished his request, he leaned on Leila with a gloomy face as they left the palace. As soon as Lucas got into the carriage, he burst out his grievances.
“What kind of emperor invites all the children of the empire to the palace just to spend time with his great-niece?”
Leila looked at her fuming husband as if he were adorable. Every time she saw this side of Lucas, it still amazed her. The man who was once cold and distant had changed so much after showing affection and having a child.
She received the love of a family from him, something she had never experienced before. Suddenly, she missed her in-laws.
“Are you not upset?”
Lucas asked her, his face full of disappointment. Who was asking who? Leila gently smiled and softly caressed his cheek.
“Think positively, Honey.”
“…Hmm?”
“Since Rosalie was born, we haven’t had time for ourselves.”
“Hmmmm?”
“His Majesty is kindly taking care of the child so that we can have some enjoyable time together as a couple. Do you dislike it that much?”
