My Perfect Omega - Chapter 151
“Sometimes I wish I could stop time.”
Sophia expressed her regret at her son and daughter-in-law’s impending departure.
“You’re right. Time does seem to fly by.”
“We’ll visit again soon, Mother, Father.”
“Yes, you’re always welcome.”
“It’s a shame I couldn’t see my dear Rose.”
“You know how she is. She’s especially fond of me.”
Sophia sighed, thinking of her brother, the Emperor, who had taken Rosalie. Ever since they were children, her brother had adored her and even as an adult, he was very attached to her. Not only that, but he had to keep her family close as well.
While she didn’t dislike his excessive affection, there were times when she wanted to give him a good scolding, Emperor or not.
“He should know to keep his distance, considering we stay in the countryside for his sake.”
“Haha, I actually don’t mind that side of the Emperor.”
“It’s too much, too much.”
Leila found it fascinating how Sophia spoke so casually about the Emperor. To her, the Emperor was still an intimidating and fearsome figure. No matter how kind he was, absolute power was absolute power.
“Oh, right. Bring what we prepared.”
At Sophia’s command, the head maid, who had been standing nearby, approached with a jeweled box decorated with intricate patterns.
“This was given to me by my mother-in-law before my marriage.”
As Sophia explained, she opened the box. Leila, who had thought the box was quite large for jewelry, was astonished at what was inside.
“Mother, this is…”
“Yes, it’s a tiara.”
Tiaras were accessories only royalty could wear. Leila felt burdened and was about to decline, but Sophia was quicker.
“Even though you’re not a direct royal, you are still part of the royal family as my daughter-in-law.”
At that moment, Sophia’s usual relaxed demeanor seemed different. Seeing her standing so confidently, Leila quietly watched her.
“Besides, the design doesn’t suit me anymore. So don’t feel burdened and just accept it.”
“…Thank you, Mother.”
“Oh, and dear.”
Sophia whispered to Leila, avoiding Lucas’s stern gaze from behind.
“I’ve loaded some necessities into the carriage. Make sure to take them.”
“Thank you.”
In truth, she had planned a surprise event without Lucas knowing. He thought they were heading straight home, but that wasn’t the case. Leila silently thanked Roan for giving her the villa to hold the event.
Everyone, except Lucas, knew about her surprise event.
“What’s going on? You’re not secretly bullying my wife, are you, Mother?”
“How could you think such a thing? Even though you’re my beloved son, I can’t tolerate such rudeness.”
“Let’s stop and get going.”
“Yes, let’s.”
At Sophia’s urging, Leila took Lucas’s hand and led him away. She carefully packed the jewelry box with the tiara and boarded the carriage. She opened the window and waved to her in-laws who had come to see them off.
“Stay healthy, Mother, Father.”
“You too, stay well.”
“We’ll come visit next time. I miss Rose already.”
“…See you next year.”
With Lucas’s indifferent farewell, the carriage set off. He felt oddly left out and wasn’t in the best mood. He pulled Leila close and closed his eyes.
Planning to take a short nap, he soon fell into a deep sleep.
* * *
“…Wake up.”
Lucas opened his eyes at the sound of someone waking him. His hazy purple eyes scanned the air before focusing.
“Have we arrived already?”
Lucas thought they had reached the city where they would be staying, unaware of how long he had slept.
“Yes, we’ve arrived.”
Leila had drawn the curtains over all the windows so he wouldn’t notice. The villa Roan had given them was located on the way from Bavenberg to the capital. Though it was nestled in the mountains, a road had been built, making it easy to reach by carriage.
“Hmm, shall we get off then?”
