My Perfect Omega - Chapter 28
Leila, holding her violin case in her arms, savored the sounds around her and the long-familiar smell of the mansion. She did not know why Lucas had come, but she planned not to miss this opportunity to leave.
And she intended never to return to the family.
The soft sunlight that entered made everything seem hazy. Her heart fluttered at the thought of leaving a place filled with memories of her mother. But that was it.
Now the mansion, filled more with painful memories than good ones, held no attachment for her.
“Ah, my fiancée.”
As soon as she reached the entrance of the mansion, Lucas spoke with a face unable to hide his joy. His call surprised not only Sarah but also the butler, and both Leila and Anna were taken aback.
“I’m sorry for not keeping our promise to hide our relationship. But I couldn’t bear it any longer. Love cannot be hidden, after all.”
His expression and voice dripped with sweetness, shocking those around into silence. Leila was no different, but thinking she needed to leave the mansion, she played along.
“My muse, I know someone like me doesn’t match you… but I’ve missed you so much.”
Anna’s eyes widened at Leila’s words, but her lips remained firmly sealed. It was a resolve not to speak recklessly. Before Sarah could intervene, Lucas quickly approached and drew Leila, who was leaning against Anna, into his arms.
“How can you say such a thing to me? That we are not a match?!”
Although his agitated demeanor seemed somewhat convincing, Leila noticed his voice becoming increasingly rigid. It might not be immediately obvious to everyone, but she felt it was only a matter of time before his poor acting was exposed.
She grasped his firm arm and whispered sadly,
“Truly, I’ve missed you… Even if just for a moment, I wish we could spend some time alone. Please, my muse.”
He wasn’t looking directly at her, but it seemed as if he could be mesmerized by the jewels in her eyes. The sunlit, iridescent eyes were irresistibly charming, making him want to keep gazing into them.
“…May I have a moment alone with you?”
“Yes, anytime.”
“Wait!”
Sarah, who had already given a firm reply to Count Wagner, was doubtful whether the two were truly in a relationship… But she was more worried about them going out and potentially starting rumors.
Thus, she tried to persuade Leila not to leave.
“Just a moment, give me some time to talk with my daughter. You can grant that much, can’t you, Your Grace?”
Her sweetly demanding tone seemed well-practiced in how to easily get men to agree. Lucas could no longer continue the act. Having never been in love, he did not know any more about how to behave with a lover.
“I will talk with my mother and come back.”
“But…”
“There’s no way my mother would oppose our relationship. She has always cared for me more than anyone else.”
At Leila’s words, Anna’s expression turned sour. Lucas looked at Leila trying to understand her intentions, but only her beautifully shining eyes greeted him.
“I have something I want to give you. So, please don’t make me wait too long.”
“…Yes.”
Lucas released his embrace. The feeling of her smaller-than-expected frame slipping from his arms was oddly displeasing. Anna led Leila to Sarah.
Sarah forced a smile and embraced Leila while pushing Anna away.
“Stay back for a moment.”
“…Yes.”
Now alone, Sarah did not hesitate and whispered to Leila.
“I don’t know what you’re thinking by colluding with the Duke, but this is troubling. Shouldn’t you be thinking about Anna’s future? Were you always such an irresponsible master?”
Familiar with such threats, Leila also leaned close to Sarah’s ear and ominously replied,
“Do you know the poison of the velvet shadow spider?”
