My Perfect Omega - Chapter 39
“Quite the clever trick you pulled.”
Leila was almost thrown into the room, causing her to inadvertently fall to the floor. Behind her, Sarah’s cold voice rang out.
“What do you mean?”
Leila’s calm question made Sarah let out a chuckle. She hadn’t realized how cunning she was and had underestimated her.
“But isn’t it too late anyway?”
Anna, that girl, was merely a shackle meant to prevent Leila from escaping. This wench thought she continued surviving in this mansion due to some great skill, but it was simply because Sarah allowed it.
“I thought you were smart, but it’s a relief that you’re not as clever as I thought. Anna would have been set free the moment you left this mansion after your marriage. Consider it a reward for taking care of you.”
Sarah’s words, delivered as if she was doing a favor, made Leila burst into laughter.
“Pfft, if it means leaving this place dead… yes, you are right.”
“…You don’t even call me mother anymore.”
“Yes, I can’t call you that any longer. It’s too disgusting.”
Sarah was slightly taken aback by Leila’s blunt words. The once obedient child now showed a completely different side, which was an unavoidable reaction. But Sarah quickly shrugged it off and added,
“Leaving Anna behind was the right choice. Seeing you act so maliciously.”
Ignoring the older woman’s words, Leila stood up. Feeling around, she made her way to the sofa and sat down wearily. She was exhausted in many ways.
“Whether it was right or not, you don’t care. You just do whatever you want, don’t you?”
“Exactly. What does it matter if that maid is here or not? But you know?”
Leila sensed Sarah approaching. The sound of her dress sweeping the floor came closer and closer.
“Have you ever thought about it?”
Even with Sarah’s deceitful voice slithering like a snake, Leila showed no reaction. She thought nothing could surprise her anymore.
Sarah, now in front of her, leaned down to look into her unseeing eyes. Every time she saw Leila’s face, identical to her deceased mother, she felt repulsed and disgusted.
“Who do you think gave the venom of the Velvet Shadow Spider, and to whom? There’s no rule that says it should be gifted to just one person.”
The area where Sarah’s breath reached appeared to rot away in Leila’s vision. Feeling a shiver, she scratched her arm. She suddenly didn’t want to hear anymore.
“The sensation of burning, have you never felt it?”
“…What are you talking about?”
“No, think about it. When was the last time you had a high fever?”
Leila’s face gradually lost color at Sarah’s words. The symptoms of the Velvet Shadow Spider’s venom were exactly like those her mother experienced. They were also similar to the symptoms she had when she manifested as an omega.
But she didn’t experience hallucinations, so she thought it was just a simple fever from her manifestation. But was it not?
“Back then, I was a bit soft-hearted. You were quite adorable when you were young.”
Sarah murmured in a gentle voice, reminiscing about the past.
“To be honest, you were cuter than Amelie when you were little. I wanted to make you my own daughter. You possessed an elegance that Amelie lacked. I thought that if I became your mother, I too would become a true noble.”
However, as Leila grew to resemble her own mother more and more, Sarah changed her mind. Seeing her manifest as a hyper-dominant omega, which was a highly desirable trait for noble women, made Sarah feel the world’s injustice.
“I came this far through my own abilities, but you were born with everything. Losing a few things shouldn’t be too unfair, right?”
Leila’s body trembled at her words. As she sweated and tried to hold back her anger, Sarah watched her like she was admiring a piece of art. Even in such a wretched state, Leila still exuded an impressive dignity.
“Being born a noble seems truly unfair.”
Sarah took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat from Leila’s forehead.
