My Perfect Omega - Chapter 42
Upon opening and confirming the edict, Benjamin let out a deep sigh. His hands trembled as he began to read out the contents of the edict.
“Why is His Majesty the Emperor personally involved in arranging my daughter’s marriage, which has already been decided?”
Lucas added to Benjamin, whose words were rude enough to be considered treasonous.
“Historically, the Emperor has always had a direct say in the marriages of alphas and omegas. That hasn’t changed recently.”
“But Count Wagner is also a dominant alpha. There’s no reason for His Majesty to be concerned.”
“The Emperor did not write the edict to hear your opinion. If His Majesty desires something, it is the duty of a subject to fulfill it.”
“But my daughter’s marriage has already been arranged!”
“His Majesty has given much thought to this marriage. Are you aware of that?”
“…What?”
Benjamin was inwardly shocked by his words. Why would the Emperor be concerned about his daughter’s marriage?
“You think all you can do is shout rudely. You have no idea what’s important.”
Referring to the events of the previous day, Lucas clicked his tongue and continued.
“You don’t seem to realize that Miss Leila is the only hyper-dominant omega in the Camorr Empire. That’s why you’re sending her as the fourth wife to a dominant alpha who cannot even have heirs, isn’t it?”
“What does it matter if she is a hyper-dominant omega or a dominant omega! She is my daughter! Only I, as her parent, have the right to decide her marriage!”
“Ridiculous.”
Lucas felt the urge to knock Benjamin’s jaw off for claiming her as his daughter only when it was convenient. With a sneer, he added,
“Then why don’t you ask Miss Leila directly if she really wants to marry that scoundrel? Her opinion is the most important.”
Benjamin realized he had fallen into Lucas’s trap. It was obvious that Leila would oppose the marriage.
Lucas, glaring at the hesitant Benjamin and Sarah, spoke.
“The command of the messenger bearing the Emperor’s edict holds more weight than when I visit as a duke. Does a count not understand this? Max!”
Lucas had not come alone today. Max, the captain of the duchy’s knights who had accompanied him, stepped forward at the call.
“If anyone refuses His Majesty’s command, arrest them immediately!”
“Yes, Your Grace! I will follow your command!”
Not only Max, but the knights with him also raised their voices. Overwhelmed by their spirit, Benjamin’s plump cheeks quivered as he stood uncertainly. At that moment, Sarah stepped forward quietly.
“Leila is not yet awake. Could you allow us time to finish our morning routine?”
Sarah spoke calmly, but Lucas looked at her with a sharp gaze. She gave him an inexplicable sense of discomfort. Her unwavering demeanor seemed more scheming than bold.
Lucas recalled what Philip had told him. It was not the count but the countess who had arranged such a filthy marriage for Leila.
What would such a woman do if she couldn’t receive the mine she had hoped to gain by selling her daughter? Surely, it was a marriage filled with malice…
“Countess.”
“Yes, Your Grace.”
“Do not worry, for I will personally ask Miss Leila about this matter as well.”
Having encountered the people of the Este household several times, Lucas had discerned their nature. They were all devious, with a common trait of preferring to ruin something rather than let it be taken from them.
It was obvious without asking whom Timo, who had cornered his sister by threatening her the previous day, resembled.
Without hesitation, Lucas strode into the mansion. Ascending the stairs with swift, confident steps, he quickly reached Leila’s room.
