My Perfect Omega - Chapter 56
She realized once again that she hadn’t been living a life fitting of a noble lady. She carefully sipped the Darjeeling tea, which had a fragrant fruit and herb scent.
As the head maid had recommended, it paired very well with the walnut tart, which was indeed delicious. Yet, an uncontrollable sadness welled up inside her.

Leila, left alone in the room, stared into the empty space. The room was filled with sunlight, making the scattered light glimmer.
Although it was blurry, she thought it was better than being trapped in darkness. However, occasionally, pitch-black darkness would descend upon her. When that happened, Leila would slowly raise her hands to cover her eyes.
As if the darkness came because of her hands, she created a reason to find solace.
Perhaps because of these dark thoughts, the sudden flash of past memories brought the darkness back. Startled, Leila covered her eyes with her hands. As expected, the darkness descended, but it was alright because it was due to her hands.
“…I miss Anna.”
If she had known it would be like this, she might not have sent Anna away. She mumbled uselessly, knowing she wouldn’t have done otherwise.
The people of the Duke of Bavenberg’s household were truly warm, even if she couldn’t see them. From the physician who visited daily to check on her health, to the head maid who greeted her cheerfully every morning and carefully combed her hair.
Lastly, every morning when she opened her eyes and exchanged greetings while being held in Lucas’s strong arms, everything made her feel warm and fuzzy.
Each time, she thought how wonderful it would have been if she had lived like this. If she had lived like this, not being able to see wouldn’t have been such a big problem.
As time passed living in the Duke’s residence, her heart grew warmer, but on the other hand, her mind grew colder.
Even if the Duke and his people treated her well now, over time, they might grow tired of her. She came to painfully realize how unfortunate her life had been.
Ah, so this kind of happy life existed too.
But why was she destined to live such an unfortunate life? The thought of how she might have frozen to death long ago without Anna’s warmth tormented her.
“My belly is full.”
If someone had told her not long ago, ‘You will live a cozy life from now on,’ she wouldn’t have believed them. Enjoying such a comfortable life should have been enough, but her mind couldn’t keep up.
Aren’t you resentful? The ones who made you like this are still living well, aren’t they?
How long will the Duke take care of you? Maybe half a year at most? He might regret it later and tell you to go back to where you were.
It felt like someone had invaded her mind and was speaking. Leila covered her ears with both hands and curled up. Sitting at the very edge of the wide sofa, she wished Lucas would come back soon.
When she played the violin in front of him, she couldn’t think of anything. And by being acknowledged for her existence, she could breathe properly.
As she held her breath and stayed still, she sensed someone approaching. By now, she knew well that Lucas was an excellent swordsman who made almost no sound when he moved.
When he returned to her room, he deliberately made footsteps. As if to let her know in advance that he was coming.
It might just be her wishful interpretation, but each time Leila realized his meticulous care, she found comfort.
Ah, I am still useful to him…
Though she had been preparing for death all her life, she shamefully wanted to live a little longer.
