My Perfect Omega - Chapter 86
The last piece Emma put on Leila was a necklace, and it was the heaviest of all the jewelry she had worn so far. Leila felt the cold touch around her neck and gently touched the pendant with her fingertips. It felt like a teardrop.
“…The diamond in the pendant is as brilliant as your eyes, my lady.”
Emma was unable to hide her admiration. The dress was adorned with countless jewels, but adding the jewelry made a significant difference.
Emma was eager to present Leila to Lucas. Just as she was fidgeting with excitement, there was a knock at the door.
“Yes!”
The head maid quickly opened the door, expecting Lucas. As she thought, he was standing there.
“Finished?” he asked.
“Yes, we just completed Her Ladyship’s preparations.”
Lucas entered the room with a mix of tension and anticipation on his face. Perhaps the reason he had gotten ready elsewhere instead of his usual room was to be moved by this very moment.
He was thrilled to see Leila, who usually dressed modestly, looking dazzling. Although she was always beautiful, her dressed-up appearance was exceptional.
“Beautiful…”
Lucas whispered in admiration as he approached her. Leila, who was about to question if he was exaggerating, swallowed her words. Despite revealing her darkest thoughts, his continued kindness touched her.
“Isn’t there something missing?” he asked playfully.
Leila, feeling puzzled, touched the jewelry she was wearing, then asked,
“Haven’t I worn everything?”
“Oh dear,” he said, slightly teasing.
He had left the other jewelry to Emma, but he wanted to place the ring himself. Although she might not understand the significance of the ring, he didn’t mind keeping that meaning to himself.
Instead of asking for her permission, he gently took her left hand and pulled out a ring from his inner jacket pocket, placing it on her ring finger.
“Your Grace!”
Leila, realizing it was a ring, tried to pull her hand away, but it was futile. His light grip was enough to keep her still.
“Since this is practically a celebration for the two of us, shouldn’t there be something to show to others?” he explained.
“What do you mean?” she asked, confused despite knowing they were going somewhere important, judging by how meticulously she had been dressed up since early morning.
“The Emperor himself has taken an interest in our marriage. Did you think there wouldn’t be any conditions?”
“…T-The Emperor?” Leila stammered.
“Yes, it seems you don’t remember well because of the heat cycle.”
“Oh…”
Lucas found her flustered reaction incredibly endearing. With a mischievous smile, he gently kissed the back of her hand. Straightening his posture, he continued,
“I thought I found a jewel that matched your eyes, but it seems I was wrong.”
He had chosen pink diamonds for the ring and necklace, aiming to match her unique eye color. While the rest of the jewelry had historical significance as pieces used by the former duchess, the ring and necklace were his personal selections.
The pink diamonds, with their delicate hue, still couldn’t compare to the beauty of her eyes. Briefly admiring her, he decided he would find a gem that matched her eyes more closely next time.
Wrapping his arm around her waist, he asked,
“Shall we go?”
Not knowing where they were headed, Leila was led away by him. Her heart pounded painfully, not from nervousness but from a feeling she couldn’t ignore any longer: excitement.
