My Perfect Omega - Chapter 92
“…It’s good to be happy, but please focus on your work.”
Despite Philip’s request, Lucas didn’t pay attention. He was humming a lively tune as he flipped through documents.
“Hm-hmm—”
The workload was increasing as they transitioned into autumn. Harvest season was always busy. It wasn’t just about harvesting—they also had to prepare for winter.
Especially since winter tends to arrive early in the fiefdom, if preparations were not made now, it could be too late. Lucas, well aware of this, quickly began to tackle the work he had postponed.
Was it because he now felt that she was completely his? The newfound sense of stability under his feet increased his sense of responsibility for everything he had.
He thought that perhaps his father had protected his mother with this same feeling. As he realized this, he wanted to inform his parents about Leila as soon as possible. They had said they would support him no matter who he chose, so they would surely like Leila.
“Where did you say the previous Duke and Duchess are?”
Philip, looking slightly puzzled at Lucas’s formal address for his parents, promptly replied.
“We received a letter last month saying they are in the southern part of the Camorr Empire.”
“Hmm, understood.”
He wanted to finish his work quickly and spend time with Leila. Like his parents, he wanted to live a life knowing and cherishing only each other. Later, when they had an heir, he wanted to leisurely travel to the Camorr Empire or nearby countries, just like his parents.
Feeling the certainty of Leila being entirely his, he was happy. A hopeful future naturally unfolded before him.
“…Your Grace, you might want to read this.”
Despite the public announcement of his relationship with Leila, marriage proposals and various invitations were flooding in. While sorting through them, Philip came across an envelope with a familiar name and handed it over.
“Hmm?”
Lucas, too, widened his eyes slightly as he confirmed the surname on the envelope.
“…Count Keller.”
A letter had come from Leila’s uncle. Knowing that the envelope was addressed to her, Lucas, thinking he would have to read it to her anyway, opened it without her permission.
The letter, written in a rough but concerned hand, was filled with worry. Her uncle, unaware of her situation, now wished to help her upon learning of it. Lucas felt an impulse to tear the letter apart. He didn’t want anyone else near her. He wanted to possess everything about Leila. He disliked sharing her with anyone, even her family.
Turning to the next page, he was startled to find a letter from Anna. She wrote about her ongoing concern for Leila and her intent to come for her. The appearance of those she cherished most stirred a fierce jealousy in Lucas, a possessiveness like a child unwilling to share a new toy.
“Really…”
After a moment’s hesitation, he decided not to show these letters to Leila. Although everything had been going well recently, he feared she might revert to dangerous thoughts. He didn’t want to burden her, who already seemed somewhat troubled, with more worries.
Briefly pricked by conscience, he chose to hide the letters. Lucas placed the letters from Count Keller and Anna in the bottom drawer of his desk.
After quickly handling some urgent tasks, he couldn’t wait any longer and headed to his room to find Leila. The thought that she would always be there whenever he visited brightened his mood.
“It would feel odd not to have Leila in my room now.”
Having handled most of the significant work, he planned to end his workday here and spend time with Leila. When he opened the door, he saw her lying on the sofa, fast asleep.
Recently, her habit of taking naps had increased, which worried him. However, knowing that she was often exhausted from their nightly activities, he wasn’t too concerned.
“Ah, could it be because we’re doing it every night these days that she’s tired?”
At the sound of his worried tone, Leila involuntarily trembled. She had hastily pretended to be asleep upon hearing him approach, but her body’s sensitive reaction to his voice made her pretense futile.
