Nighttime Encounters - Chapter 5
Safely out of Count Fischer’s sight, Rosia forged her path through the darkness.
Her purple ribbon, tied high, rippled in waves, and from her crimson lips, a visible breath burst forth.
Running as swiftly like a child pursued by a specter, Rosia’s footsteps gradually slowed when the grand mansion was no longer in sight.
“Oh, it could have been perfect, but we got caught.”
Rosia lamented with a touch of regret, but there was no sense of urgency in her voice.
[So, you should have left immediately. Why bother with disintegrating the pearls?]
“So she can never get them.”
She remembered Count Fischer, who, despite his infidelity, had the gall to ask his wife to leave.
Rosia bitterly bit her lip, then turned to Luperne.
“Luperne, deliver a message to the Fischer guardian spirit.”
[What message?]
“I have protected the Fischer family from malevolent spirits. Now you must take charge and protect your daughter-in-law.”
As Rosia hurriedly fled, she concealed the necklace chain she couldn’t hide entirely beneath her clothes.
“Whether through appearing in the son’s dreams and issuing threats or by placing a curse upon Fischer Manor, in whatever way possible, separate the lover from the Count,” she continued.
[She’s the guardian spirit of Count Fischer’s family, right?]
“A guardian spirit should protect the family. If not, I’ll threaten them a bit, even summon some evil spirits into the house.”
Rosia, with her regalia completely concealed, spoke with a stern expression.
“If she doesn’t want to be exorcised by an evil spirit, she’ll figure it out herself.”
Reading the medium’s firm determination, Luperne nodded in agreement.
[Okay, once I see you get home safely].
Rosia’s stiff face relaxed, and she let out a small laugh.
Relaxing, she tilted her head at an angle and muttered languidly.
“I’ve escaped unscathed. It’s already perfectly done”
[Even so, my heart won’t be at ease.]
With a small nod, the onyx earrings in her ears swayed, reflecting the darkness.
It was a magical tool that changed the color of her hair and eyes to black.
Now that she was away from the scene, returning to her original form would help her escape.
As she brought her hand to her ear to remove the earring, she flinched at an unexpected flash of light.
“It’s you.”
The voice was deep and thick, like the whisper of a gentle breeze.
Rosia raised her head to confirm the owner of the voice. A man stood there, his figure as round and perfect as a full moon.
Shadows veiled his face, making it impossible to discern his features, but his gaze sparkled vividly within the deep darkness.
“The Rogue Trinity who caused such a stir in the capital.”
A shiver ran down her spine, electrifying her senses and sharpening her every perception.
Rosia’s heart, which had just begun to return to its regular rhythm, now pounded fiercely once more.
Blood coursed through her veins, so much so that she thought they might burst.
“And who might you be?”
The air around her gathered, forming the shape of a sword.
The faint shape of the wind grew larger and larger, sharper and sharper.
Rosia’s movements drew a deeper intensity in the man’s gaze.
“This is even more exciting than I’d heard,” he remarked.
Rosia clenched her teeth, eyeing the man fiercely. Instinctively, she knew. Household guards protecting the Count and even the security forces, all were mere distractions. This was the real deal.
Overwhelmed by a sense of impending danger coursing through her entire body, Rosia forgot to breathe as she continued to glare at the man.
“You not only possess remarkable magical proficiency but also employ techniques I’ve never seen before,” remarked Rosia.
Her companion, Luperne Escalon, was one of the three great mages who had contributed to the foundation of the Escalonian Magic Empire. A renowned and revered mage among all the empire’s magicians.
Rosia had received her instruction from this distinguished Luperne.
From the soul of a man who died 670 years ago!
With Luperne’s help, Rosia has mastered magic and has access to formulas that no other wizard in existence knows.
But until now, no one had realized it.
However, no one had ever discovered this fact up to now. Magical formulas were inherently complex and had branched out in numerous directions over the course of their development, resulting in a wide variety of them.
Even for a highly skilled mage, distinguishing another person’s formulas at a glance was nearly impossible.
“Is it possibly a formula rooted in ancient magic?” he wondered aloud.
However, the man, with a mere glance, could instantly discern the subtle differences.
“No wonder Ortebaek has trouble with it.”
Rosia glared at the man and gripped the wind in her hand tightly.
The wind swirled around her blade, sharpening it even more.
Rosia gripped the blade tightly in both hands and lowered her center of gravity, poised to strike the man.
She used the spring of her kick to leap high.
And run away in the opposite direction!
