Obsession... What's That? I Just Wish Someone Would Help Me Escape - Chapter 21
“Ugh…”
I passed out for a moment, then my consciousness slowly returned.
I blinked twice as I saw letters and symbols quickly appear and disappear before my eyes.
What was that? It seemed like a mix of Korean and English, jumbled and broken. It passed by too quickly for me to see clearly.
Was I hallucinating a status window out of desperation, or was it just a flash of light before I died?
My body was pinned under heavy planks, making it hard to breathe.
Through my blurry vision, I could see the legs of guards and prisoners moving around.
I’m not dead then. Given the severity of my injuries, I might as well be dead, though.
“Help… help me…”
I barely managed to stretch out my hand from under the planks seeking help, but no one seemed willing to.
The callous conversation of onlooking prisoners was the only thing I heard.
“Seems like they’re not dead yet, should we pull them out?”
“Leave her. She’s going to die anyway, might as well let her die quicker.”
Help me, you crazy bastards! There’s nothing comfortable about this death!
I didn’t have the energy to argue or shout.
Suddenly, I remembered the money deposited in a secret bank.
I can’t die like this. I need to escape, buy a new identity, and start a new life.
As my strength continued to drain and breathing grew labored, a familiar face suddenly appeared before me.
“What are you doing?”
Enrique was looking down at me while I was trapped under the planks.
“Can’t you see…?”
I’m being crushed to death here!
At my resentful voice, the golden eyes beneath his silver hair blinked twice and then narrowed.
“Shall I help you?”
“Yes…”
With the little breath I had left, I pushed out a response, which made him tilt his head and ask.
“What will you do for me if I help you?”
Do you really need to ask for something in return?
But then again, this is a place filled with ruthless selfishness.
It’s better than those who have lost all sense of humanity, at least he’s considering helping.
My voice failed me, so I scraped the ground with my hands, signaling that I’d do anything.
“Really, anything? Alright then.”
I wasn’t sure how he understood, but Enrique’s face moved away, and I felt the heavy planks that had been crushing me lift off.
“Humph.”
I gasped as the blocked air rushed into my lungs, and the dizziness that clouded my vision cleared.
“Can you stand?”
Enrique got on his knees and extended his hand to me.
Even if he had expected something in return, he looked like an angel to me.
Angels in books also ask, ‘Will you live your life right from now on? Or would you rather die?’ and they make sure to get a firm promise before they help, right?
As I grabbed his hand and struggled to my feet, Enrique covered his mouth, letting out a languid laugh.
“Your body seems intact. It seems you were lucky.”
It looked like I hadn’t suffered broken bones or instant death thanks to a slight gap under the plank…
Is that considered lucky?
“Lady 49, you promised, right? If I saved you, you’d do anything.”
I kept a little distance from him as he seemed to be confirming again.
“I promise to do my best within reasonable limits. But I can’t agree to anything beyond common sense.”
“I haven’t even thought about what to ask yet. I’ll tell you when I need something.”
Would it be something like taking my place in death, serving as bait in dangerous situations, or being kindling for cooking potatoes?
Anyway, he had saved my life and wasn’t making any immediate demands, so I decided not to think too deeply about it.
My body ached too much to afford that.
“Thank you for helping me.”
“Don’t die too soon. You need to be alive to fulfill my request.”
As I barely managed to hold myself up, I saw prisoners who had been peeking from above the mine s***t fleeing the scene.
Looks like the prisoners from the 30s to the 40s.
I didn’t see their faces, but I’m sure they were the culprits.
“I’ll kill them…”
Any resolve to live kindly vanished instantly.
I gritted my teeth, vowing cruel revenge.
I’m not currying favor with the top two ranked prisoners for nothing. Just you wait.
