Obsession... What's That? I Just Wish Someone Would Help Me Escape - Chapter 4
At a glance, they might seem like rich and handsome young men, but knowing they are brutal enough to destroy their own women, I quickly showed respect.
Right now, in this prison, they’re just ‘young and mad.’
“It’s an honor to meet you, Prince Enrique. I am Beatrice of the House of…”
“Ah, I noticed the unique hair color. You are a lady from the Sloth family. The royal family has been disbanded now, so you can be informal.”
I shudder to think of the dreadful consequences if I actually did that.
Just the thought leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
“No, I think it would be more uncomfortable if I did.”
Had I acted normally without knowing this was a novel, I might have ended up a cold corpse in no time.
Just thinking about it is unsettling.
This is a place where most guards don’t care if a prisoner dies right in front of them and even turn a blind eye to murders among inmates.
Considering there are only two of them in a cell meant for five, it’s likely that at least three have been sent to their deaths.
I’m essentially like a herbivore trapped in a den of ferocious predators.
In a prison gathered with only the most powerful and vicious ability users, there’s no way I, the weakest and lowest in the hierarchy, can survive.
What should I do to survive?
Now without money, connections, or power.
“I regretted not being able to meet you due to your deployments, but now I can formally introduce myself. I am from the family of the Sloth, the House of Farsene, a blood relative of the Farsene Dukes, and the eldest daughter of Count Beatrice, the Imperial advisor…”
In my attempt to establish some connection, a cool baritone voice returned.
“Status is irrelevant now, Number 49.”
Johann slowly stood up and approached me, looking down at me.
He was much taller, and I had to lift my gaze considerably.
His absinthe-colored eyes shone fiercely beneath the jet-black hair.
Though he was handsome, like a chiseled sculpture, facing him felt like confronting dark, towering waves.
“This prison is a world of survival of the fittest. You’ll be the first to be devoured, whether by me or someone else.”
A shiver ran down my spine at his cynical baritone.
“Don’t bully the weak, Johann.”
Enrique, who intervened, smiled at me.
“Lady number 49, don’t worry too much. I’ll help you.”
“You’ll help me?”
I looked at Enrique with desperate eyes.
His golden eyes narrowed slightly.
“You look like you won’t last long anyway. Should I just end it quickly for you?”
That guy, a classic sweet yet crazy character.
What was I even expecting?
While I was panicking, Johann watched me intently and curled one corner of his mouth.
“Isn’t it too early to kill? The last one died too quickly and it got boring.”
Seems like many have died here.
An ominous thought crossed my mind that my life might be in danger.
Enrique looked at me squarely and said.
“Just be careful, and you’ll be fine.”
The eerie warning made my shoulders involuntarily shrink.
Enrique gently stroked his neat jawline and began explaining what exactly I should be cautious about.
“Johann has bad sleeping habits. Dying in sleep might not be too bad…”
Shouldn’t you guys be the ones to be careful?
No intention of treating a weak inmate with any care, then?
I looked at them seriously and asked.
“Um, could you tell me what caused ‘the previous guy’ to die? I’ll be careful in advance.”
“He died because he did something to deserve it, but I’m different! I’m sincere and kind, and they’ll know it!” It’s hard to grow a flower garden in your head…
Instead of being impressed by the flowers that had bloomed in such a harsh environment, they looked like the kind of people who would spray herbicides on them, wondering, ‘Will this one survive?
Enrique tilted his head and narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Nothing much. Snoring too loudly, stealing, being rude, lacking hygiene, picking your nose, Johann being in a bad mood…”
He started listing the reasons for previous inmates’ deaths with a smiling face.
So they all died for trivial reasons, right?
“Hey, why make it sound like I killed them all?”
Johann, looking displeased, fiddled with the black piercing in his ear.
“He dreams of fighting demons and ends up freezing the guy sleeping next to him to death.”
Both are finicky with bad sleeping habits, making it a room of death where people unknowingly die next to them.
Concluding this, I forced a smile.
This is crazy… Please, just change my cell!
