Obsession... What's That? I Just Wish Someone Would Help Me Escape - Chapter 87
Upon entering the arena, Grandis quickly realized her plan had gone awry.
To make matters worse, her team was set to go first.
This had to be Kido’s scheme to avoid facing them early on.
Useless rookie guard—did he even have a brain?
But fortunately, her teammate, Prisoner Number. 4, Princess Lize Martinez from the Duchy, was a direct descendant of a demon family under the Spirit Demon.
Apart from Prisoner Number 3, who was locked in solitary confinement, Lize was the third most powerful prisoner in the facility.
Even if a group of lower-ranked inmates attacked her all at once, the gap between top-ranked and regular prisoners was insurmountable. Without a doubt, she would win.
“Pathetic. I can’t wait to face Number 1 and Number. 2.”
After their fourth consecutive win, Lize adjusted her glasses with a bored expression.
Most matches ended before her teammates even had the chance to contribute.
Lize was a spirit-wielder, borrowing the power of a high-ranking demon that ruled over souls. She could summon a legion of spirits and communicate with the dead.
Lize swept her sparrow-brown hair back into a ponytail and chuckled.
“But Number 7 was pretty interesting. If this were an academy, I would have trained her well.”
Curiously, Lize incapacitated her opponents without ever taking their lives.
When asked why, she’d say:
“Unnecessary killing. Before I came here, I was a professor teaching students. I don’t want to stifle potential growth. It’s a teacher’s virtue.”
The power of a gifted individual grows over time.
The stronger one’s magic, the more abilities they unlock, and as long as they match the demon’s traits, they can even borrow the abilities of subordinates contracted by their family.
So what about those chosen by an archdemon, reigning at the pinnacle?
Such individuals could wield countless abilities, existing on a whole different level.
A fellow teammate, another prisoner in twenties range, seized the opportunity to flatter her.
“As expected, you’re truly an exemplary educator. The academy must have produced many talents under your guidance.”
“Thank you. They say if we win, I’ll have a chance to work as an instructor for the prisoners here. Let’s keep it up, everyone, all the way to the end.”
Lize had a strong passion for education and a competitive spirit.
Grandis knew this and had specifically chosen to team up with her.
With her drive to win, Lize would undoubtedly hinder Number 1 and Number 2.
“Miss Prisoner Number 4, I’d love to learn from you if you become our instructor.”
Grandis flashed a playful smile, masking her heartless words.
Even with a powerful ability-wielder on her side, she knew there was no chance of winning against two empowered beings.
Although she wouldn’t earn a consecutive win bonus, this was a chance to kill Kido, and the rookie guard who’d won his bet would likely support her moving forward.
She’d also laid a stepping stone toward joining the Dark Order.

Kido returned to the underground prison, which served as a waiting area.
Her team included herself, Number 1, Number 2, Number 12, and Number 48.
Knowing that Justina had placed a bet on Number 12, Kido clicked her tongue as she glanced at him.
Not bad, for a god to have such greed.
Prisoner Number 48 approached her cheerfully, offering a handshake.
“Hi there! We’re both in the 40s, but we haven’t met yet, have we? I only came in recently. Let’s get along.”
“Sure, hello.”
Number 48 was a delicate woman with lemon-blonde hair and blue eyes.
She was the first prisoner to greet Kido, the lowest-ranked Number 49, with such kindness.
Number 48 clenched both fists and beamed brightly.
“If our team wins, maybe we’ll rank up! Let’s do our best.”
With an enthusiastic smile, she continued.
“You know, I’m aiming to be a model prisoner. The cell I’m in now has way too many bugs; it’s tough. My dream is to move to a better cell soon.”
She seemed deeply determined.
Winning would indeed earn her points toward becoming a model prisoner and maybe even a slight bump in rank.
If she was desperate enough to wish for a better cell, how horrible must her current environment be?
Having started in a top cell herself, Kido had no idea what other cells were like.
Soon enough, a guard’s voice echoed, announcing the start of the final match, and they followed him outside.
Cheers from the excited audience erupted outside.
“Waaaaaah!”
Kido felt a wave of disgust as she imagined the faces reveling in the spectacle of prisoners beating each other up.
“The concept of human rights is dead…”
To them, we’re probably less than human.
