Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 10.6
The moment I heard those words, a system window appeared between me and Arvan.
Ally [Arvan] feels a faint affection towards you.
‘The timing is impeccable.’
I narrowed my eyes as I looked at the translucent cyan window.
He said I was the first intruder to believe his words and work with him. Just as he comforted me, my existence must have been a comfort to him too.
How did it feel to live with such a person and share a peaceful daily life? Anyone who has ever been hurt would not have been able to resist.
I couldn’t have been the only one who would quickly become immersed in fluttering emotions if I didn’t consciously remind myself that this was a transactional relationship.
It’s natural for sympathy and goodwill, gratitude and familiarity to develop into rational affection. I don’t think that’s a problem. The problem is.
‘The quest window remains unmoved.’
A quest that ends when I gain Arvan’s trust. The square window shows no change.
‘He likes me, but doesn’t trust me.’
It felt like my chest was hardening. Would it have been better if it had shown that he had no affection at all? I turned my eyes away from the window that revealed the uncomfortable truth. As if sensing my intention just by turning my head, the hologram disappeared.
“I’m going to sleep now.”
“Ju-in.”
“I’m tired. Let’s talk later, Arvan.”
I quickly climbed the stairs. Arvan didn’t follow.
Once in the second-floor bedroom, I hastily took off my outer clothes, placed my glasses on the nightstand, and sat on the bed. Only then did I hear Arvan’s footsteps going down the stairs.
Even with the blanket over me, my chest felt empty. What was my heart expecting? I never told it to flutter. I don’t understand why I have to share the pain when it was my heart that expected and was disappointed on its own.
‘I miss Callion.’
When I couldn’t meet Callion, I relied on Arvan out of anxiety, but now that Arvan has hurt me, I think of Callion.
I’m really such a fickle person.
‘No, it’s not being fickle. Callion must miss me too!’
It’s not just me seeking him out one-sidedly. Callion also remembered Room 310, where our memories are.
‘I don’t want to wait anymore. Let’s go meet him now.’
I got off the bed, held my slippers in my hand, and quietly went down the stairs barefoot. The darkened living room on the first floor was quiet. Arvan’s room is beyond the kitchen, far from the stairs.
‘If I sneak out quietly, I won’t be caught.’
I walked as if sweeping the floor to avoid making noise and opened the door.
The night air is cold.
‘Where was that gap in the neighbor’s fence… I think it was at the back.’
Perhaps because everyone living nearby knows each other, the fences were kept low, just enough to know whose house was where. Thanks to that, it wasn’t difficult to climb over even with my clumsy movements.
I crossed over to the neighbor’s house and crept around the outside, looking for Callion.
‘Callion. Which room are you in?’
This is the carpenter uncle’s room. This is the storage room. He said there was one spare room, so maybe it’s at the back. Trying to spy on someone else’s house made me feel like a thief, full of thrill.
‘It is trespassing, but I’m not harmful. I’ll just meet Callion and go back, so please forgive me.’
I apologized and reflected inwardly as I approached the window, but unexpectedly, the window was open. It wasn’t opened on purpose but seemed to have been left open and neglected.
As I peeked through the open gap, I saw Callion sitting in the corner. He had his eyes closed, leaning his head against the wall.
‘Oh my. Why is he sleeping sitting up when there’s a bed? Did he collapse as soon as he arrived because he was so tired?’
I quickly climbed through the window.
It seems the carpenter uncle had prepared the bed nicely for the guest, but Callion was sleeping in what looked like an uncomfortable position, leaning against the wall near the door.
‘Callion. Are you sick somewhere?’
He was still wearing his hood pulled down deep, but fortunately, the moon was bright enough that it wasn’t difficult to examine his appearance.
I was about to bend down to check his complexion. At that moment, something brushed past my neck.
It was Callion’s sword.
“…!”
He seemed to have been sleeping while sitting, but suddenly he was awake, his eyes sharp, pointing his sword at me.
“Ca, Ca, Callion.”
“…Ju-in.”
Thankfully, he recognizes me. I almost lost my head.
Is this what they mean? A martial arts master can sense an assassin’s sneak attack and strike with their sword even while sleeping.
“Ju-in.”
Callion called my name again as he slowly lowered his sword.
‘Phew.’
I stroked my pounding chest as I looked up at Callion. I came without my glasses, so he should recognize me, but strangely, Callion wasn’t surprised at all.
“Another dream is it.”
He muttered weakly.
‘He must think this situation is a dream since there’s no way I, who died, could come back alive.’
But ‘another’? Has he dreamed about me before? If it’s a good dream, why not dream it together?
“How long will this…”
Callion returned his sword and sat back down. Rubbing his eyes and sighing, he looked very tired.
Callion. I’m not dead. Well, technically I died and came back to life, but anyway.
“Callion.”
“How many times do I have to tell you I don’t want to see you?”
The hand I was about to extend to him stopped abruptly.
“Please, don’t come to me anymore. I want to forget you.”
“……”
“Why are you… being so cruel to me?”
I don’t want to see you.
Don’t come to me.
I want to forget.
A heavy sensation, as if sinking into a swamp, weighed down on my shoulders.
‘You’re disappointed in me.’
To save me, Callion faced the monster alone, prepared to die. He must have believed Senes would take me to a safe place, and intended to die there.
But I died with the monster, saying I would save Callion.
It’s not strange for Callion to feel betrayed when the person he tried to save even at the cost of his life died on her own.
It’s not strange for his affection to turn into resentment.
“Please, Ju-in… I can’t take it anymore……”
He groaned, covering his face as if in pain.
His voice sounded so desperate that I couldn’t bring myself to speak to Callion.
I thought he would be happy to know I was alive. I thought he would embrace me with joy.
But my mistake of deceiving him was too great.
‘I must have been the first person Callion opened his heart to.’
It’s natural that he can’t recover from his wounded heart, thinking I betrayed him.
“I’m sorry, Callion.”
“……”
Trying to get close again now, acting as if nothing happened after stabbing his heart, would be like insulting him.
Restoring our relationship must have been my selfish desire.
“I won’t bother you anymore.”
I apologized to him and turned around. Callion didn’t look at me as I climbed out the window. He just remained with his face buried in his hands, breathing softly.
It looked so much like he was trying to hold back tears that I quickly closed the window and left the place.
‘Why did I come here?’
Arvan’s warning was right. It would have been better not to get involved.
I didn’t know Callion resented me so much, and I only thought about wanting to see him again soon.
I was too selfish. After inflicting such a deep wound. Coming back to life doesn’t erase my mistake.
‘While Callion was suffering like that, I was comforted by Arvan’s side. What right do I have now?’
I returned to my room on the second floor without knowing how. I climbed onto the bed in a daze and covered myself with the blanket up to my head.
I just wanted to sink like a stone thrown into a river.
