Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 11.2
‘Was he just speaking confusingly?’
If he dislikes me, he could have just ignored me and passed by. Why did he rush over, pick me up, and then pick a fight? Is he messing with me?
“Oh, is that so? Then go on your way. Please put me down.”
“No. Why should I do that?”
“Senes?”
“You’ve ignored all my requests so far and done as you pleased, so why should I listen to your demand?”
Did I ignore Senes? I certainly missed the time to say thank you a few times.
But that was because Senes spoke so rudely that I simply couldn’t muster a proper thank you. It wasn’t entirely my fault.
Anyway, I quietly worked at the job he introduced and stayed in the village until I died.
“I thought you had died, but your life is quite tenacious.”
“Senes. Do you know how nasty you’re being?”
“I wonder. Compared to what you’ve done, I don’t think I’m being particularly nasty.”
“What did I do!”
“You did nothing.”
Is that something you say to someone who died and came back to life? You blockhead!
“How convenient. Having no memories.”
“…?”
“Forgetting duties, responsibilities, promises. It must be comfortable to forget everything that’s disadvantageous to you, Ju-in.”
What am I supposed to have forgotten!
‘I just said I had no memories because I thought I’d be suspected as a strange person if I said I wasn’t from this world.’
Senes is treating me like I’m really an amnesiac.
While his words are nasty enough to invite a punch, his actions are rather considerate towards me. When we were at the cliff’s edge, rather…
─ Do you need someone to die with you?
I suddenly remembered the words he had spoken with a relieved expression.
And how he grabbed my outstretched hand without hesitation, looking at me as if he was glad I had chosen him as the person to die with.
‘Ah, I don’t know. Why does he keep confusing me like this?’
Anyway, Senes’s words about disliking me must be sincere.
‘They say men don’t confuse women they like.’
So Senes must really dislike me.
I wonder if he’s in a state where he can’t be sure of his own feelings because he once mistakenly thought he liked me due to the charm effect, causing his mind to go haywire.
“Anyway, put me down. I don’t have time to waste meeting you. I’m going home.”
“Home?”
“Yes. I’ve quit my shabby antique shop job and I’m living with a stunning handsome man.”
“Hmm.”
Senes’s expression became subtle.
Why. Do you think I’m lying? Even without you, there are many men who like me!
“If you’ve found someone to get attached to, that’s good. Maybe this time you’ll value your life a bit more.”
“What do you mean?”
Senes didn’t answer and gently put me down on the ground. When I looked up at him, he turned his head as if trying to avoid eye contact.
He’s so tall that unless Senes looks at me, I can’t meet his eyes. That fact oddly frustrated me.
“Please treat the people who care for you well, Ju-in. Don’t backstab them again.”
“Have I ever backstabbed you?”
He chuckled.
“Many times.”
I’ve never backstabbed you, what nonsense are you talking about?
‘I don’t understand what Senes is thinking.’
Whether he dislikes me or likes me.
If it’s the former, shouldn’t he be jealous that I’ve found a good person? If it’s the latter, he should be jealous.
But Senes’s reaction was neither. Rather, as if relieved, the atmosphere had softened.
“Go on. Your live-in boyfriend is waiting, right?”
A careless wave of the hand, as if shooing away a fly. An expression of utter nonchalance. I got angry and stomped my foot before turning around.
“Try not to let that great personality of yours show to your live-in boyfriend.”
Instead of responding to Senes’s parting words, I mentally gave him the middle finger. Feeling his gaze on the back of my head, I ran home without looking back.
***
While I was out, Arvan must have gathered his colleagues for a strategy meeting, because when I opened the front door, there was no room to step in.
“Arvan. John is back?”
The people here called me ‘John’.
I was used to being called strange names because they couldn’t understand my name, so I didn’t bother correcting them, but I don’t understand what kind of sensibility it takes to casually hear a woman’s name as ‘John’.
“Come in, Ju-in. The meeting just ended.”
“Sorry. Was I too late?”
“No. You came just in time.”
As Arvan dismissed his colleagues, they all bowed slightly to me while eyeing me cautiously and left through the entrance. The living room, which had been packed with people, became empty.
I had gone out intending to gather information, but I wasted time in useless conversation with Senes and didn’t achieve much.
“Arvan. When I arrived at the square, it already felt like things were wrapping up… I couldn’t accurately gauge the number of monster hunters, but it seems there are fewer than on our side.”
After seeing five people in the square, I didn’t spot any other outsiders on the way to the central palace’s west gate, except for Senes.
The people here don’t even try to hide their stares when they spot an outsider, so if there had been any other outsiders besides Senes, their reactions would have been different, which means there weren’t any nearby.
“And even after the speech ended and the commander left, the soldiers remained, waving to the cheering citizens.”
It was quite ridiculous how they were basking in the cheers and applause, intoxicated with the idea that they had come up with some grand plan, but on the other hand, it was fortunate.
‘It means they’re completely off guard.’
They’ve made the ore to lure monsters, and all the monster hunters they’ve called will arrive within two days.
Moreover, they’re receiving overwhelming support from the city’s residents, so it’s understandable that they might feel like they’ve already succeeded.
