Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 4.7
They say these talismans have functions like concealing one’s presence or emitting scents that monsters dislike to keep them away, but I didn’t look into it in detail as it didn’t seem necessary inside the village.
What caught my eye was a pair of earrings.
They looked too crude to be just jewelry. Are these protective talismans too?
“What are these black earrings?”
“They’re communication devices.”
“Communication devices?”
“You can locate the person who has the other half of the same piece. The ones my brother and I share are also communication devices made of black magic stones.”
So that’s how they send signals in emergencies.
I looked up at Callion.
‘When Callion leaves… he won’t come back here again, will he?’
Both Callion and Senes said they never visited the same village twice. It’s impossible to attack a monster’s lair alone, so they have to hunt monsters that have strayed from their groups, and there aren’t many of those. They said they keep moving from place to place to hunt.
‘Why do they hunt so diligently when they don’t even stay long in villages to rest properly? It seems like they’ve been hunters for a very long time.’
If they’re not settling down somewhere, it must be hard to save money, and even if they do, there’s nowhere to spend it.
I couldn’t understand Callion, who seemed to have no lingering desire to settle down.
Judging by how intensely focused he was when having s*x with me, it doesn’t seem like he dislikes human warmth.
‘Then why is he reluctant to form relationships with others?’
If there’s no unavoidable reason to risk his life fighting, couldn’t he settle down somewhere now and build connections with other people?
“Ju-in. Would you like to choose this?”
“What? No!”
Callion pointed at the earrings, probably thinking I wanted them because I was staring so intently.
I quickly shook my head.
Why would I buy something like this? I don’t have anyone to contact.
‘Callion… will leave like this anyway.’
Even though we mixed our bodies so passionately, Callion didn’t say he would stay here. He didn’t say he wanted to be with me either.
I don’t think his desire to touch me was a lie. It’s just the kind of person he is.
Someone who, even if he likes someone, doesn’t want to stay by their side.
‘Then there’s even less need for a means of communication.’
The only danger I’m likely to face in this village is when my lifespan ends, and what use would it be to call Callion then?
Still, he’s the first man I mixed bodies with here, and I didn’t want to traumatize him by dying in front of him.
We said it was just a momentary fling, after all.
It’s best to end it here without any lingering feelings.
That would be easier for both of us.
“I was just looking because it was interesting. Let’s go to the antique shop now. Senes said he found a job for me there.”
“Earlier you were complaining that you didn’t like the job, but has your mind changed already? You’re as fickle as a reed.”
The rude guy strikes again.
‘Honestly, it’s not a job I’m particularly drawn to.’
I’m uncomfortable with jobs that involve facing people because this Charm skill is bothering me.
The duration should end tomorrow morning, but who knows what kind of accident might happen.
It’s better to avoid encountering men as much as possible, but I was worried because there are many male guests at inns and restaurants.
So, an antique shop on a hill where I won’t have to face people much because I’ll be counting items and managing ledgers would be good.
Of course, I have no intention of sleeping in the warehouse. I wasn’t interested in being a live-in slave on 24-hour standby.
‘I’ll have to commute from the inn.’
I should be able to manage somehow if I cover up with a hood.
***
As expected, the antique shop was quiet. It made sense that there were no customers, as there didn’t seem to be many useful items.
The pay was low, but it’s not like I was going to save money here for anything, and Callion was paying for the inn. I only needed to cover food and miscellaneous expenses for three weeks, so it wasn’t burdensome.
I agreed to start work tomorrow and returned to the inn.
‘I wanted to explore the village, but nothing’s working out because of this Charm skill.’
Thanks to eating Senes’s cooking, I wasn’t tired, but being confined to the room left me with nothing to do. Just as I was about to try and sleep out of boredom, I heard a knock at the door.
“Ju-in.”
It was Callion.
When I opened the door, he was standing there with a tense expression.
His large hand suddenly held out something. It was the black magic stone earrings I had been eyeing earlier.
“Callion? This is……”
“I’d like you to accept it.”
I took it reflexively, but I was quite surprised.
Isn’t Callion about to leave? Didn’t he say he never visits the same village twice? Giving me something like this…
“And I also have something to say.”
“Yes?”
“I’ll come back to see you again.”
Callion continued with serious eyes.
“Ju-in. I still can’t promise you a future. I know it’s selfish to want to see you again when I’m in a position where I can’t settle in one village. But I don’t want to part like this.”
“Callion.”
“Will you wait for me?”
Wait for him? I never thought Callion would say something like this.
‘I’m grateful that he’s taking our relationship seriously, but…’
I can’t promise a future either.
“I can’t wait for long.”
Because I’ll be dead in three weeks.
“I understand. While I’m gone… I know your feelings might change, or you might meet another man in this village and start a family.”
I’ve only been in this village for two days, how could I start a family?
Callion, how far have you thought this through?
“If you refuse, I’ll back off.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“!”
Before thinking about refusal or defining our relationship, my lips moved first.
It seems Callion’s hands moved before his answer too. He lifted me up in his arms and kissed me urgently.
His breath was rough as if he had been in a state of nervous tension.
I gripped Callion’s silky hair tightly. I wasn’t in a particularly composed state myself to calm him down.
He pressed his lips against mine as if he wanted to devour me.
It was a passionate kiss, different from yesterday’s shy and hesitant one.
“Ju-in.”
A heated whisper escaped between parted lips. Without answering, I focused on the kiss again.
No words were necessary. No need to exchange glances. I closed my eyes and breathed hot air through our overlapping lips.
The ecstasy from last night revived, and a thrilling excitement arose. I clung to his neck, holding on tight. Even though my feet were off the ground, I no longer felt uneasy.
I wanted to focus solely on the desire of this moment while in his arms.
He readjusted his hold on my trembling body and changed direction, pushing me towards the wall. Trapped between the wall and Callion, I kissed him frantically.
A cool, sweet scent.
I felt like I could find this man’s lips even with my eyes closed.
As I leaned my back against the wall and wrapped my legs around his waist, our lower bodies pressed together and our breaths heated up. Callion gripped my b*ttocks tightly and buried his face between my br*asts. Though it was an action driven by instinctive desire, the gesture was more animalistic than sensual.
I felt the man’s breath flowing between my br*asts and twitched my waist. The sensation of our lower bodies rubbing somewhat hastily through the fabric was unique. As his g*nitals, slowly growing in size, pressed against my thighs, I could feel my underwear getting wet.
Even though we hadn’t taken off our clothes, a raw tension flowed down my spine. A shallow pl*asure fluttered like a small bird, tickling below.
Callion didn’t push me any further than that. As if stopping here was the only way to promise a next time.
“Whew……”
As I lowered my arms from around his neck, exhaling a rough breath, he set me down on the floor. Callion grabbed my swaying waist, pulled me close, and embraced me tightly.
The pounding of our hearts. I will never forget this heat.
“Callion.”
Still in Callion’s arms, I looked up at him.
“When will you come back?”
“After I circle the mountain range on the other side, about a month……”
By then, I’ll be dead and gone, you fool.
“I can’t wait that long. Come back sooner.”
Callion looked bewildered for a moment, then spoke firmly as if he had made up his mind.
“I’ll return in two weeks.”
