Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 5.2
The skill’s duration expired the next day, so most were disappointed and left, but this guy, for some reason, kept coming to find me whenever anything happened.
Bill was twenty-two. A whole 4 years younger than me.
Since I hadn’t revealed my age, he seemed to have misunderstood that I was around his age, but I didn’t bother to explain.
With his friendly impression and fairly good physique, he didn’t seem unpopular, yet somehow he got stuck on a terminally ill stranger.
“Bill, what’s wrong?”
“There’s been an accident!”
I was going to kick his butt if he came just to say something silly, but an accident is unavoidable. I closed the ledger I was organizing, put it back on the bookshelf, and went outside.
He had clearly run here urgently, his neck flushed red as he panted heavily.
“Someone got trapped under a cargo wagon!”
“What?”
“Hurry, hurry!”
Oh no. If we don’t save them quickly, it could be serious.
The village isn’t small, so even sprinting from north to south takes quite some time. I ran to the supply warehouse and quickly took out a telescope. Fortunately, the weapon shop was located on the main street, so there were no buildings blocking the view, making it easy to assess the situation.
“Is that black thing the cargo wagon?”
People were gathered in front of the weapon shop, and a rectangular cargo wagon, twice the size of a regular carriage, was tilted with one wheel off. I couldn’t see the trapped person, but judging by the commotion around, it seemed they couldn’t lift it even with several people’s combined strength.
I looked around. We needed a space that could accommodate such a large cargo wagon. It had to be on level ground, as rolling down the hill would cause a major accident. The flower bed behind the warehouse caught my eye. There were no crops planted now, so it should be fine.
“Bill, give me your hand.”
“O-Okay!”
Walking to the flower bed, I took Bill’s hand and opened the skill window.
‘Position Reversal.’
A translucent hologram window appeared.
[Position Reversal Lv.3]
You can switch the positions of the person you’re in contact with and one designated object.
Condition 1: The person you’re in contact with must be conscious.
Condition 2: You can only designate objects that you can visually recognize.
Condition 3: Both the person you’re in contact with and the designated object must be [on top of] a surface that can support their weight.
Condition 4: If either is surrounded by a physically impassable barrier, the skill will be canceled.
Cooldown: 40 minutes
The skill is currently available for use.
※If used on a person outside your party, the cooldown time doubles.
This is a new skill I acquired after Callion’s group left.
It seems my will has the greatest influence on skill acquisition, as this skill was created when I tried to save a child who almost fell into water.
As long as the object is within a distance I can visually recognize, and the person or object I’m in contact with isn’t surrounded by barriers and isn’t attached to the floor, making it physically possible to move within the space, position reversal is possible.
Moreover, as I use the skill, its proficiency seems to increase, and this one has already reached level 3. At level 1, there was a weight limit and the cooldown was longer at one hour, but at level 2 the weight limit disappeared, and reaching level 3 reduced the cooldown time.
It’s not about changing my position, so it has more restrictions than I thought, but it’s a fairly useful skill in situations like this. Thanks to this, in the period of just over two weeks, I’ve saved quite a few people from everyday accidents using this skill.
Especially in cases like this, where someone is trapped under collapsed objects, I can be faster than a group of strong men trying to dismantle it.
With one hand holding Bill’s, I used the other to steady the telescope again.
This was to designate the object whose position would be reversed.
Through the lens, I could see the pitch-black cargo wagon.
Do you want to reverse the positions of [Bill, the weapon shop owner’s son] and [the cargo wagon]?
When I clicked [Yes], the enormous cargo wagon disappeared from among the people, and a thud was heard beside me. A cargo wagon the size of a house was now embedded in the flower bed.
“As for Bill… Oh. He arrived safely.”
Bill, who had been summoned to the cargo wagon’s position, stood up awkwardly.
The person said to be trapped under the cargo wagon was now visible.
Fortunately, there was no blood splatter, so it seemed only bones were broken.
People murmured and made way as men with a stretcher carried the man with broken legs towards the infirmary.
“We saved the person, but… the flower bed is a mess.”
I don’t know. Bill will either restore it or compensate for it.
Patting my shoulder, I returned to put the telescope back in the box and was about to sit down when I heard Bill calling me from outside again.
“Jin!”
I had left him at the weapon shop in the south, but he had already climbed back up the northern hill. What perseverance. It was a shame that there were no marathon competitions in this world to showcase his talent.
“I’ll move the cargo wagon later. I can’t do it right away either.”
“Ah, I know. I came to say thank you.”
Bill bowed his head to me in gratitude and then grinned.
“Thank you so much, Jin. You’re our village’s hero.”
This wasn’t the kind of hero I had wanted to be, but I saw no need to decline the praise, so I let it go in one ear.
“Is the injured person okay?”
“It seems his right ankle bone is completely crushed… But it’s a blessing that you saved his life.”
That’s true. Being alive is the most important thing.
“But how did such an accident happen?”
“We got an order from the ‘Castle’, and the deadline was tight… We loaded too much cargo at once, and it seems the wheel couldn’t bear the weight and broke.”
In this world, they charge per wagon rather than by weight, so it’s common to stuff cargo wagons with an absurd amount of goods.
‘No wonder the wheel gave out under the weight.’
Even with more than five strong men gathered, they couldn’t lift the wagon, so it was impressive that the wheel had held up until it arrived here.
“If the deadline is tight, shouldn’t you move that quickly?”
“That’s true, but you said you couldn’t do it.”
Bill pointed at the locket on my chest.
“Aren’t you going to use that to move it?”
