Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 5.5
“It’s me.”
“Ms. Jin!”
As I stepped forward, the inn employee turned pale and grabbed me, then let go again.
“A woman?”
The investigator looked a bit puzzled when he saw me, probably because he had assumed the suspicious person would be a man.
“A face I haven’t seen before. What’s your name?”
“…It’s Jin. I arrived here 2 weeks… no, 3 weeks ago.”
“Where did you come from? You can’t enter this village without crossing the mountains. You don’t look like you belong to a merchant group.”
I can’t say I settled here while traveling. The mountains are teeming with magical beasts. Even merchant groups, who travel with several guards, sometimes get eaten by magical beasts.
The villagers know that I came with Callion and Senes and settled in the village. If I lie about coming with a merchant group, it would be quickly exposed.
“I lost my memory.”
“Lost your memory?”
“I almost died from a magical beast, but some beast hunters saved me and brought me to this village.”
“Beast hunters? Who?”
The two of them only stayed for two days before leaving. They don’t stay long and don’t visit the same village twice, which is as good as saying they don’t want to leave any traces.
I can’t reveal their identities.
“I don’t know. They left right after bringing me here.”
Bill seems to think Callion was my former lover, but I’ve never directly stated what kind of relationship I had with Callion, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
For now, I decided to deflect.
“Suspicious.”
Everyone else believed my amnesia excuse without question, so I was relieved, but this investigator in front of me seems to be quite skeptical.
I suppose I do look suspicious, but I’m just an ordinary, powerless, surplus human. What threat could I possibly pose?
“Hmm…”
The investigator’s eyes narrowed. He looks me up and down.
“Quite a beauty. It’s a waste to leave you in a village like this.”
“…?”
Ugh. Don’t tell me.
“What do you intend to do with me?”
“Immediate execution for anyone suspicious or threatening.”
As expected, they just kill indiscriminately. Truly corrupt methods.
“If we determine you’re not a threat, we might leave you alone… if you listen to me well, I might let it slide.”
The investigator touched my cheek, smiling like a third-rate villain.
I take back what I said about him being handsome by public standards. This guy is just trash. No, trash was at least useful at some point, this is just nuclear waste.
‘Do they mass-produce guys like this in some factory? How can their repertoire be so consistent?’
This isn’t even Earth but another world, yet these perverts who are worse than trash seem to share neurons across dimensions, with everything from their gaze to their behavior being utterly unpleasant.
It’s saying something when I think Senes’s rude remarks are better than this.
To think such guys are the Castle’s investigators, the investigative agency must be running just great.
“People are watching.”
“That’s what makes it more exciting, isn’t it?”
Hmm. A pervert whose logic doesn’t make sense.
This means it wouldn’t be my fault if I broke his neck right here.
‘Should I just kick him in the balls?’
If I resist the investigator and cause a commotion, it seems the villagers might suffer too… but the waste here is the investigator, so there’s no reason I should keep quiet and endure this. Sorry, but I need to resist a bit.
‘My life’s genre is already enough of a survival-disguised adult romance game. I have no intention of stepping into mob abuse territory!’
I glanced out the window. I can see the bell placed on the watchtower.
The bells here aren’t hung in the air but are like brass gong-shaped drums placed on the ground and struck from above. Their distinctive feature is that the center of the support base is hollowed out to maximize the resonance.
“Then shall we start by holding hands?”
“I’d rather grab somewhere other than your hand.”
With this typical trash comment, the investigator’s hand moved below my shoulder.
It was a gesture as if he was about to grab my chest, but oh…
I wish they had given me the right of immediate execution, not the investigator.
Do you want to reverse the positions of [Castle Investigator] and [Slave]?
‘Yes.’
Thud!
With a dull resonance, a large gong fell in front of me. Ah, not a gong, a bell. People stepped back in surprise.
“Aaargh!”
I could hear the investigator screaming from afar. The part where the bell sits has a hole in the floor, so his lower body probably sank right through.
‘If he can hold on with his arm strength, he might survive, so fighting!’
It’s unfortunate if he neglected strength training, but I wonder if I need to sympathize with a guy who was about to grope a woman’s chest without warning upon first meeting.
If I can’t think of a valid reason within 3 seconds, I guess it’s safe to say there isn’t one.
“M-Ms. Jin! What on earth did you do!”
The inn employee, grasping the situation, grabbed my arm in shock.
This was self-defense. I’m innocent.
“Q-Quickly, run away before the investigators come!”
“What’s all this commotion!”
“Eeeek!”
The investigators burst in, smashing the decorative cabinet by the door. I don’t understand why they’re breaking the cabinet when the door is open. Who’s going to clean all that up?
“Captain Rumbuck is nowhere to be seen!”
“Everyone, get down! We won’t let anyone suspicious get away!”
I learned the name of the guy I just sent away, but that fact wasn’t very important. The investigator pulled out something like a long stick from his waist, and the next moment, a blade sprang out from it.
“H-Hieek!”
I could see people around me crouching down in fear. The inn employee was also trembling, curled up on the floor.
The man called captain pointed his sword at me, who was standing blankly.
“What did you do? Where’s Rumbuck?”
He’s gone now. But he’ll live on as one with your heart.
I humbly told him in my mind and checked my skill window.
