Overpowered Reincarnation Perks! - Chapter 5.6
Cooldown time remaining.
You cannot use the [Position Reversal] skill at this time.
Time remaining until skill activation: 78 minutes
※ Due to the penalty, the cooldown time has doubled.
Among my skills, the only one that can be used offensively is Position Reversal, but this skill has too long a cooldown. If it’s impossible to send away the rest of them or to escape, I’ll probably die here.
I had no regrets, as it’s not like I’d be living in luxury and glory even if I lived three more days.
No, that’s not true, I do have regrets…
“Jin!”
Just as I was about to let go of my thoughts about Callion, a familiar but not very welcome man came in. It’s Bill. Did he finish cleaning up the flower bed before rushing here?
“Bill…”
“Stop this! Jin has done nothing wrong!”
Before I could say anything, Bill quickly intervened, shielding me from the investigator with his body.
I appreciate the sentiment, but I wish he wouldn’t do this. I have a bad feeling about this.
“Bill. Step aside.”
“No, Jin! If you’re taken by the investigators, it’s over. Listen to me!”
I feel like something bad will happen if I listen to you, that’s why.
“Hey, you behind him.”
The man standing next to the captain pointed at me.
“Are you… a criminal?”
Not a criminal, but a master.
As I kept my mouth shut, the investigators’ expressions became grave, seemingly taking it as an affirmation. I really have a bad feeling about this. As I slipped out beside Bill, he quickly moved to block me.
“Jin. Run away!”
“No, wait.”
“I won’t abandon you like that man did. I’ll protect you!”
Look, Callion and I aren’t the kind of relationship you’re imagining, and I’ve never been abandoned, but this wasn’t the time to point that out.
No matter how I listen to Bill’s desperate cry, it sounds like he’s dancing on top of a death flag. This is really dangerous.
“I’ll cooperate with the investigation. Just don’t harm the villagers.”
“Jin! No!”
“You’re in the way, get lost!”
The lead investigator swung his sword at Bill.
Oh. Bill doesn’t have a weapon right now. No protective gear either.
“Aargh!”
Red blood splattered before my eyes.
For a moment, my mind froze. As I stood there, eyes wide open, Bill slowly fell towards me. Leaning his head on my shoulder as he fell…
No. He didn’t fall.
Bill staggered and clung to my shoulder.
“You bastards, stop this violence!”
“There was still plenty of time until the scheduled dispatch, yet you barge in suddenly and do this!”
“Hey, grab them! Grab them!”
The inn guests. The villagers who were watching worriedly from outside. Even the inn employee joined in, pinning down the investigators and disarming them.
No matter how much they brandished the holy relic as a hostage, there were only three investigators. There was no way they couldn’t be subdued if the villagers worked together.
“Jin, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
“…Bill. Your wound.”
“It’s just a shallow cut, I’m fine.”
Shallow cut, my foot. Your entire front is soaked in blood.
If the villagers hadn’t stepped in to subdue the investigators, Bill would have really died. While protecting me.
I felt dizzy as if all the blood was draining from my body. My vision blurred and my stomach churned.
This damned system window.
Saying I’d die saving people.
Someone almost died trying to save me.
“L-Let go of this! Do you think you’ll be safe after doing this?”
“Shut up, you damned bastards!”
“If you don’t release us quickly, the next holy relic will…”
“What use is a holy relic when you’re worse than magical beasts!”
The inn employee whacked the lead investigator’s head with a frying pan. Ding. A clearer sound than the bell was heard. As expected, being corrupt, it seems there was nothing in his head.
“…Um, everyone.”
I was a bit perplexed. I’m grateful for being saved, but…
“Is this really okay?”
“It’s not supposed to be. But Ms. Jin, you’re our village’s hero.”
“That’s right. I heard you saved someone yesterday too.”
They said with smiling faces, as if trying to reassure me, despite not being able to shake off the anxiety of having attacked the investigators.
“…”
I was just planning to spend my time idly in this village until I died. Even when I saved someone, I lied about it being the power of the magic stone because I didn’t want to reveal my abilities.
Why are these people taking my side?
I’m going to die in three days anyway.
How are they going to deal with the aftermath of beating up the investigators after I’m gone?
“Jin. Your face is pale.”
“It’s because of you.”
“Me?”
“Let’s treat your wound first.”
Fortunately, Bill’s wound wasn’t deep. Of course, the cut was wide so it probably stung terribly, and he was burning with fever. The doctor said that no important muscles or organs were damaged, so with care against infection and prioritizing rest, he should recover fully.
I nursed Bill all night. Bill told me to go rest since I must be tired too, but I couldn’t be so heartless as to leave someone who got hurt because of me.
And I’m going to die soon anyway. What’s the big deal about staying up all night?
Just in case, I tried to use my healing skill, but no guide appeared over Bill’s body. Perhaps I can’t heal those who aren’t party members.
I don’t understand why my skills have so many restrictions.
[Time remaining: 2 days]
The villagers worked together to lock up the investigators in the basement of the watchtower. Originally, this village didn’t have anything like a prison, so they locked the investigators in a storage room used for keeping meat cool and put a padlock on it.
I asked what they would do if the Castle sent additional personnel to look for them. They said they didn’t know.
“But I don’t think they’ll send additional personnel for a while.”
“Why?”
“I heard there’s some big problem at the Castle. The sudden influx of weapon manufacturing orders, and the investigators being dispatched earlier than scheduled, it all seems to be because of that.”
So there’s some issue at the Castle, and they need weapons and magic stones?
I don’t know what it could be. Even if I knew, I probably couldn’t help.
Because I don’t have much time left.
