Please Kill Me - Chapter 8
Yekaterina had a reason for specifically choosing the monster slaughterhouse.
If she merely wanted a knife, she wouldn’t have needed to come all the way to this outskirts. However, the monster slaughterhouse was a place thoroughly covered in blood, even if no one got hurt.
So, even if Yekaterina suffered a fatal injury due to the protective spell not working correctly, she could easily deal with it here. Since there wouldn’t be any inconvenience for multiple people, the monster slaughterhouse was an ideal testing ground.
‘Rather than the wrist… It would be better to stab near the heart.’
Just in case, let’s stab in a place where it could be a fatal injury.
‘Okay.’
Yekaterina took a deep breath, confirmed that the workers were engrossed in the monster slaughter, then raised the cleaver.
And without hesitation, she struck it deeply.
Just as Yekaterina thrust the knife into her heart, the door of the monster slaughterhouse creaked open.
“Miss Yekaterina!”
Yekaterina lifted her head at the sudden call. It wasn’t just one person who opened the door. About three or four men were searching for Yekaterina with stern expressions.
“Miss Yekaterina, we were told to bring you to the Black Room… What are you doing now?”
“Huh?”
Yekaterina suddenly looked down at her heart, or rather, the knife.
The deeply plunged knife was suspended above her heart, having pierced through all her clothes without leaving a single scratch on her skin.
“Oh no.”
Yekaterina struck her heart once more. There was a dull sensation, but once again, there was no injury. Instead, the blade seemed noticeably duller.
“The magic listens so well…”
What should she do about this?
Yekaterina muttered seriously, but unfortunately, she had no time to dwell on her thoughts.
Among the people who entered through the door, the man at the forefront fell into contemplation and shouted.
“Quick, seize the Miss!”
In the blink of an eye, Yekaterina found herself being restrained with her arms still holding the cleaver.
Certainly, if Yekaterina had tried to evade, she could have easily done so. However, she was absorbed in her contemplation.
‘The protective spell works so well.’
She thought even a slight nick, something as minor as a grazing cut from the knife. However, she remained perfectly intact.
While Yekaterina was lost in her thoughts, the leader among them shouted, “Release the knife! The Miss must now go to the Black Room!”
Upon hearing the words “Black Room,” Yekaterina snapped out of her reverie.
‘No matter how, I’d rather avoid the Black Room.’
The Black Room was the pinnacle of torture devices in Offenbach. It was said that no one who entered came out sane.
The Black Room created using mental realm monsters instantly blocked all senses the moment one entered. In this place, they existed but in a state of neither living nor dead. Even if they tried to see, all they could perceive was darkness. Trying to listen yielded only silence. Moreover, even their own presence within the room became faint.
Spending a few hours in such a place would inevitably drive anyone insane. No matter how strong Yekaterina was, she detested being confined in that room. The magic provided bodily protection, not mental tranquility.
‘No wonder he didn’t resort to physical punishment; it’s the Black Room.’
Sergei had chosen a form of mental attack as punishment for Yekaterina’s actions. It explained the sudden tranquility.
Yekaterina rolled her indifferent eyes.
‘If that’s the case, then it means Father can’t harm me either.’
The reason for choosing not to physically strike her but to confine her to the Black Room was simple. Sergei knew that no matter how hard he struck, Yekaterina would be unaffected due to the protective spell.
Sergei was already aware that Yekaterina was stronger than him physically.
Disappointment mingled with a sense of emptiness, like a tide washing over.
‘I thought I received grace from Offenbach.’
During that long period, was she the one who should be grateful for being allowed to live?
If Yekaterina moved her arm or flicked her hand, there could be people within Offenbach whose breaths would be cut short.
Now everything was tiresome.
The family, life, and even death.
‘But even dying seems difficult.’
Her head throbbed.
Words aside, this seems more like a suicide prevention spell than a protection spell. Yekaterina began thinking.
‘Now that it’s come to this, I have to find someone stronger than me.’
Within Offenbach alone, there were only two individuals – herself and Sergei – that could deal with 2nd grade monsters and he would be of no help.
‘At least they should be able to handle 1st grade monsters.’
Was there such a person? Someone strong enough to confront a 1st grade monster and, more importantly, someone who could kill her?
“….Ah!”
Yes, there was such a person!
Moreover, fortunately that person was currently in the capital. Not far from here, accessible by carriage.
In a moment of realization, Yekaterina raised her head.
There, she saw a man enthusiastically prattling on. He was someone who was not registered in her mind while she was lost in thought.
“So, we had orders from the master to confine Miss in the Black Room for nine hours. If you come along quietly, we won’t resort to force.”
