Portrait of An Arrogant Master - Chapter 37
“What happened to you, Macy? Are you hurt?”
“Oh my goodness! How did this happen?”
Morgan and Philips, seeing Macy’s disheveled look as she got out of the carriage, rushed to her in concern.
“Where are you injured?”
Even Dia appeared, throwing the door open.
“Well… I tripped on the road and fell…”
“Oh dear, your arm is scraped. There’s quite a bit of blood.”
“We need to treat this right away. Dia, do we have any first aid supplies here?”
“Yes, we do. Just a moment, please.”
They seemed too preoccupied with checking Macy’s injuries to question her clumsy lie, or perhaps they didn’t hear her clearly.
Feeling a bit guilty for causing such a fuss over something minor, Macy apologized silently. As she sat in the reception room, Dia returned.
But her hands were empty despite saying she’d get the first aid supplies.
“Is there none? Should I go out and buy some?”
Morgan asked, starting to get up from his seat. Dia shook her head.
“No need. Mr. Eren Wood has instructed that he will take care of the treatment personally. Please come in.”
“Eren? Eren is already here?”
“Yes, he arrived earlier and has been waiting.”
This was the first time Eren had arrived before her. Come to think of it, it was also the earliest they had met; the sun hadn’t even set yet.
She wondered if something was wrong as they reached the bedroom door.
“Um, I can treat this myself. Eren doesn’t need to touch it…”
“Mr. Eren Wood said if you didn’t come in willingly, we were to bring you in by force.”
“…”
He must have anticipated that she would feel uncomfortable. Macy had never been able to win against him.
With a resigned sigh, she closed her eyes as Dia blindfolded her with a cloth. The door opened, and as soon as she took a step inside, it closed behind her.
“What a sight you are. Suddenly blind, are we?”
The sharp criticism hit her the moment she entered.
“How can someone with perfectly good eyes trip and fall on the street?”
Although Macy felt deeply wronged, she didn’t respond. She heard Eren sigh heavily before getting up. He took her hand and gently led her to the bed.
There was a clattering sound, it seemed that he was indeed preparing to treat her wounds himself.
‘Even if I refuse, he won’t let me go.’
Feeling disheartened from his scolding, Macy suddenly remembered something she hadn’t considered: she was still wearing only one shoe. The other foot was dirty with dust and dirt.
Embarrassed, she tried to hide her foot, but her efforts were in vain as her skirt was abruptly lifted.
“Wait a moment…!”
“Stay still. I need to apply the ointment.”
This was exactly why she wanted to do it herself!
Her skirt was lifted up to her thigh. Embarrassed, Macy tried to pull it down to just above her knees. He seemed amused by her feeble attempts, letting out a soft chuckle.
With somewhat rough hands, he began disinfecting the wound.
“That’s going to leave a scar…”
He muttered to himself, clearly displeased. He seemed quite annoyed.
“Ouch.”
Despite her efforts to remain quiet, a pained sound escaped her lips.
His hands became a bit gentler as if he was being more careful. He meticulously applied antiseptic to the wounds on her arm and face as well.
She heard the sounds of him putting away the supplies once he was done.
“Now, tell me the truth. What really happened?”
“…”
It seemed he hadn’t believed her story about tripping on the road.
“Why did you change the address?”
“I… left home.”
But how did he know it had been changed? She thought only the Krygen agency knew. Wasn’t personal information supposed to be confidential?
“Why did you leave?”
“I had a fight with my family.”
“Yannick Horton? Did he throw you out?”
“No. I said I was leaving.”
There was a moment of silence. Only the sound of the wind outside could be heard. Not being able to see his expression made her uneasy.
For the first time, he had waited for her, and she was late. The letter must have arrived in the morning, but she hadn’t checked it.
She wasn’t afraid of Eren in the same way she had been initially, but she feared him differently now. She worried that his apparent anger was due to her irresponsible actions.
“So, you’re staying at the new address?”
“Yes…”
“Where is that?”
“At a friend’s house…”
