Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 106
“Understood,”
Joo replied without hesitation.
Jeonghan got into the car, his face set in a chillingly stern expression.
* * * * *
It seems like it’s almost healed now.
While changing the moist dressing on her neck, Suhyeon checked her wound in the mirror.
Though a faint red line remained, like a drawn mark, the wound had mostly healed.
After placing a new dressing over it, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Ding-dong.
“Ah.”
Quickly getting up from her vanity, Suhyeon walked briskly toward the front door.
As she walked, she undid her tied-up hair and smoothed it out with her hands to make it look neat.
As Suhyeon made her way to the front door, she smoothed her dark hair a few more times in a rush before opening it.
Standing at the door was Jeonghan.
“…You’re here,”
She said.
Without showing much enthusiasm, Suhyeon left the door open and turned away. Jeonghan followed her inside and closed the door behind him.
Click.
Hearing the sound of the door shutting, Suhyeon walked toward the kitchen island.
“What do you want to drink?”
“Coffee.”
Pausing for a moment, Suhyeon glanced at him as he walked over to the sofa.
Jeonghan took off his jacket and casually dropped it next to the sofa.
Seeing him in just his shirt, his well-built upper body in view, Suhyeon asked,
“Do you have to work today?”
“I do,”
Jeonghan replied, sitting down on the sofa and looking at her.
Suhyeon turned her head away.
‘…So he’s going back to the office again,’
she thought to herself.
She started the coffee machine, letting her thoughts wander. As she pulled out the cup, a vague feeling of disappointment crept in.
‘Why do I even feel disappointed that Do Jeonghan is going back to work?’
Suhyeon quickly pushed the thought from her mind.
Since the incident at the columbarium, Jeonghan had been coming to her house every evening.
Sometimes for as little as 30 minutes, other times for as long as an hour.
He usually drank tea, but on days he drank coffee, it meant he would head back to the office afterward. Those days, he left earlier than usual.
The first time Jeonghan came after work, asking for a cup of tea, Suhyeon had assumed he came with ulterior motives.
But when he simply drank his tea, quietly observing the wound on her neck, and then left, she realized she had been mistaken.
Since then, they sat across from each other every evening, drinking tea.
It had felt strange at first, as she had never sat quietly with him like this before, doing nothing but sipping tea.
But as the days passed, she started to get used to it.
In that time, her neck wound also gradually healed.
Earlier, while looking at its nearly healed state in the mirror, she had thought to herself:
Once it fully heals, will he stop coming by in the evenings?
The sudden pang of disappointment that followed was something she chose to ignore, focusing instead on applying the moist dressing.
Click.
Carrying his coffee and her own cup of tea, Suhyeon walked toward the sofa.
“Here, have some.”
She placed his cup on the table and spoke.
“Thanks,”
Jeonghan replied shortly, lifting the cup in silence.
Suhyeon also picked up her cup and took a sip of the milk tea, warmed to just the right temperature.
Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at him.
Jeonghan sat neatly in his shirt and tie, sipping his coffee. His composed profile caught her attention.
“……”
The way he calmly placed the cup back on the table drew her gaze, and when his eyes met hers, Suhyeon tensed slightly.
