Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 112
“Do Jeonghan.”
Suhyeon spoke with a serious expression, but he didn’t care. Jeonghan walked straight to the car, opened the door, and personally seated her inside.
Standing by the door, Jeonghan met her gaze and said,
“Wait for me at home. I’ll come as soon as I’m done.”
His low voice, tinged with anger, made Suhyeon hold her breath before belatedly responding.
“Why should I… for you…?”
Bang!
Jeonghan shut the door and turned to speak to Chief Joo.
“Make sure Seol Suhyeon gets home and report back to me.”
“Yes, sir.”
Chief Joo replied and walked toward the driver’s seat.
Suhyeon furrowed her brow and stared out the window. Jeonghan stood there, his hands shoved into his pant pockets, staring directly at her.
Suhyeon bit her lips tightly.
Should I just get out?
There’s no reason I have to listen to him.
For a moment, such thoughts crossed her mind, but she knew she’d just be put back in the car the same way. It would only make things awkward for Chief Joo.
In the end, after some hesitation, Suhyeon chose to stay seated, and the car started moving.
Jeonghan remained standing in the same spot.
“……”
Suhyeon watched him grow distant through the car window for a moment. Her brow furrowed slightly.
‘Unless you want to make me lose it, toss aside the contract, and come chasing after you.’
The words he had said earlier kept bothering her, as did Chief Joo’s awkward demeanor.
…It’s none of my business.
Why should I care about that awful man?
Even as she thought this, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling unsettled. As Suhyeon bit her lips in frustration, she finally asked Chief Joo a question.
“Um… Chief Joo.”
“Yes, go ahead.”
Chief Joo briefly met her gaze through the rearview mirror before answering.
“That man… did he leave an important meeting just now?”
Chief Joo, who was driving, didn’t answer immediately. After a brief pause, he kept his eyes on the road and replied.
“You don’t need to worry about it.”
Chief Joo’s response was formal and concise.
“Are you sure it’s really not a problem?”
“……”
Chief Joo remained silent, focusing only on driving. The silence itself signified that there was indeed a problem.
Why….
Confusion flickered in Suhyeon’s dark eyes.
Is it really because he thinks I’m meeting another man? Did he really throw aside his work and come here because of that?
‘You’re already driving a man crazy, Seol Suhyeon. Why push someone who’s already mad even further?’
Jeonghan’s blazing eyes and those words wouldn’t leave her mind.
‘I’ll come as soon as I’m done.’
When that thought resurfaced, Suhyeon inhaled sharply.
‘Because I love you Seol Suhyeon.’
Suhyeon bit her lips. Her heart pounded loudly and rapidly.
This shouldn’t be happening….
She tightly shut her eyes.
Thinking back to the emotions that burst out yesterday, waiting for Do Jeonghan didn’t make any sense.
No matter how much he confessed his love, the way he avoided answering her questions made it impossible to trust him fully.
And yet, why did that confession keep replaying in her head?
Her heart raced again at the sudden appearance of Do Jeonghan today. Even his unreasonable, reckless behavior left her heart trembling like a fool.
On one hand, Suhyeon was so angry and resentful toward Do Jeonghan, but she already found herself anticipating his return, just because he said he’d come back after he was done.
‘I don’t even know why I’m like this.’
Suhyeon let out a small sigh, her expression heavy with frustration.
Even though she tried her hardest to act indifferent in front of Do Jeonghan, it was just an act. Deep down, she wasn’t indifferent at all.
She couldn’t stop herself from waiting for him.
‘This doesn’t make any sense.’
With her eyes tightly shut, she could only hear the deafening sound of her own heartbeat.
* * * * *
The doorbell rang, and soon after, the door opened.
Standing there was Jeonghan, dressed in the deep navy suit he had been wearing earlier.
Through the open door, Suhyeon gazed at him.
Looking down at her with his usual composed expression, Jeonghan tilted his head slightly.
“I thought you’d pretend not to be here like last time.”
“……”
This time, Jeonghan didn’t have the furious expression he’d worn earlier. His slightly curled lips carried an air of ease.
“You waited so obediently, Seol Suhyeon.”
For a moment, Suhyeon looked up at him, but without saying a word, she turned and walked inside first. Jeonghan followed her into the house and caught up with her.
“Ah.”
He grabbed her shoulder and turned her toward him, meeting her gaze.
Suhyeon’s eyelashes trembled slightly as she locked eyes with his dark, intense gaze.
Trying to look away, she attempted to turn her face, but Jeonghan grabbed her chin with one hand and fixed her gaze on him.
Looking down at her clear eyes that had collided with his, Jeonghan spoke in a low voice.
“Don’t meet other men.”
“……”
His voice wasn’t angry, but the intensity of his gaze made it impossible for her to look away.
Jeonghan scanned her face with his gaze and spoke in a low tone.
“Just seeing you sitting with another man makes my head spin.”
