Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 119
The mocking voice was definitely Choi Se-jin.
“Still, the way she talks is so annoying. What? Nothing catches her eye? Like when she usually picks out everything in different colors, but then when it’s time to pay, her card gets declined, and she makes up ridiculous excuses and runs off. That story spread all over the department store. Ha, seriously, it’s absurd.”
“It’s entertaining. Just leave her be. Let her enjoy it.”
Choi Se-jin was laughing as if she genuinely found it amusing.
“Still, it’s kind of funny how she thinks we don’t know anything.”
“Do you think Seol Suhyeon is just pretending not to know about that? I’m a bit curious about that.”
“She probably really doesn’t know. From way before the divorce, Do Jeonghan cut off all financial support to their family. They started going downhill from there, and now they’re completely broke.”
“Well, her mom and her were always a bit too flashy, weren’t they? Acting like they were from a wealthy background, draped in cheap stuff, and showing up at all kinds of social gatherings, acting all high and mighty.”
“Oh, right. That stuff was really cheap.”
Laughter burst out from inside.
“So, there are a lot of people who completely avoid associating with them, aren’t there? We just watch because we find it amusing.”
“By the way, earlier, when you brought up that rumor about Seol Suhyeon, did you do that on purpose to test Seol Hana?”
Choi Se-jin’s laughing voice could be heard again.
“Of course. See? Seol Hana really doesn’t know anything.”
“What do you think Seol Hana will do when she finds out? Is she hoping those two will get back together? She’s probably wishing for some scraps to fall her way.”
“My brother said that even if Do Jeonghan and Seol Suhyeon get back together, there’s no way he’ll support her family again. Apparently, whatever grudge he’s holding, Do Jeonghan has completely cut off all ties with Seol Hana’s company.”
“Really? Serves them right.”
The sound of giggling quietly echoed.
“Hey, she might come back soon, so stop now. Shh.”
“That’s why I almost broke up with that guy.”
“You should’ve broken up. Why hold back?”
The topic shifted naturally as if they had been discussing it all along.
“I’m letting it go just this once. Still, since he’s an athlete, he’s really good at that.”
“Anyway, just expose it.”
Laughter seeped out near the entrance by the maze-like wall glowing with dim light.
“……”
Standing in front of it, Seol Hana’s face was pale.
* * * * *
Suhyeon was returning to the office with Hyunwoo and Bora after an external assignment. In the lobby, someone called out to her.
“Seol Suhyeon.”
When she turned around, Seol Hana was standing there.
Suhyeon’s gaze turned icy the moment she recognized the person who had called her.
Draped in luxury brands, Seol Hana approached with a smile.
Thinking it was an acquaintance, Hyunwoo and Bora stepped back to give them space.
“Manager Seol, we’ll head back to the office first…”
“Living the good life, aren’t you, Seol Suhyeon? With all that alimony you got from Do Jeonghan, and here you are, playing dress-up as a regular employee.”
At Seol Hana’s words, Hyunwoo and Bora, who were about to turn away, froze in place.
Do Jeonghan… alimony?
Did they hear that correctly?
Hyunwoo and Bora exchanged bewildered glances. Seol Hana looked at them, then smiled as she pointed a finger at Suhyeon.
“Does the company know she’s the one who divorced Do Jeonghan? Did they hire her knowing that? This could cause some issues.”
“M-Manager…”
Bora glanced at Suhyeon with a troubled expression.
Suhyeon stared at Seol Hana for a moment before calmly speaking to Hyunwoo and Bora.
“Go on ahead. I’ll be up soon.”
“Alright then.”
Hyunwoo led Bora away, walking ahead. Unlike Bora, who still looked visibly shaken, Hyunwoo maintained his composure.
Suhyeon, watching the two head toward the elevator, turned her gaze back to Seol Hana.
“Follow me.”
Suhyeon spoke coldly and began walking toward the exit. Seol Hana let out a scoff before following her.
Once outside the lobby, the two stood face to face.
“You must be pretty desperate. Coming all the way here to ask for money.”
At Suhyeon’s flat voice, Seol Hana’s eyes narrowed sharply.
“Seol Suhyeon, it’s all because of you! Are you even human?! You keep our poor parents from reaching out and now you’re trying to hog all that money for yourself?”
Suhyeon crossed her arms loosely over her chest and stared at Seol Hana.
