Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 90
Suhyeon slowly opened the cap of the water bottle he was holding and took a sip. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jeonghan giving some instructions to Manager Joo.
After Manager Joo, who had been standing behind, went somewhere, Jeonghan’s gaze returned to Suhyeon.
Before his gaze could fully reach her, Suhyeon quickly looked straight ahead.
The handkerchief on her lap caught her attention, but she didn’t touch it.
She knew he was pretending to be the affectionate husband in front of others, showing this calculated kindness.
Even that concerned look he gave, if she were to collapse, was probably meant to avoid appearing like a husband who wouldn’t care if his wife was in pain.
‘…I know that, so why can’t I remain unaffected by Do Jeonghan’s gaze?’
The heat rising in her head made her feel frustrated, when suddenly, a large shadow cast over her.
‘What is this?’
Suhyeon looked up. A large black golf umbrella was spread above her head.
“This is…?”
She looked to the side in surprise, and Jeonghan was holding the handle.
“I’ll hold it.”
With a glance at the approaching Manager Joo, Jeonghan turned his attention back to the event ahead.
Suhyeon, who had been looking at him without realizing it, turned her gaze to the noisy event. The cool shade that covered her seemed to gradually calm the heat that had spread up to her scalp.
At the edge of Suhyeon’s left vision, there was a large man’s hand holding the handle of the golf umbrella.
“…..”
Suhyeon consciously tried not to look at that hand.
That hand, which had been providing shade the whole time, didn’t move from that spot.
And then, another memory.
A crack in the dam of her thoughts allowed a series of other memories to resurface.
Clink!
“Ah!”
During their marriage, Suhyeon dropped a flowerpot while carrying it down the hallway. She stared awkwardly at the shattered pot when the study door suddenly burst open.
Suhyeon flinched and turned around.
Upon seeing Jeonghan, Suhyeon lightly bit her lip.
‘I didn’t want to show him that I made a mistake.’
Why did she have to make such a mistake when Do Jeonghan was home? The flowerpot could have been moved tomorrow, it wasn’t urgent.
As Suhyeon berated herself, Jeonghan was looking alternately between the broken pot and her.
Suppressing her embarrassment, Suhyeon quickly spoke.
“Sorry for the disturbance. I’ll clean it up, so don’t worry and go inside…”
Suhyeon’s eyes widened.
The floor was covered with sharp shards of glass, and Jeonghan was walking through them, stepping right over them.
Suhyeon gasped in horror and shouted.
“What are you doing? Don’t come any closer…!”
In an instant, Jeonghan was right in front of her and picked Suhyeon up.
“!”
Suhyeon’s widened eyes met his cold, calm ones up close.
With Suhyeon still in shock, her lips only moved in surprise, Jeonghan carried her into her room.
After opening the door and stepping inside, he put her down and spoke.
“I’ll have someone clean it up, so stay inside.”
“Ah…”
With his deep voice, Suhyeon couldn’t say anything in response and just watched the door close.
At that moment, out of the corner of her eye, Suhyeon noticed blood seeping from under Jeonghan’s thin slippers.
“Wait, wait a minute!”
Suhyeon hurriedly grabbed the closing door. Jeonghan stopped and looked down at her.
“Your foot… are you hurt?”
Jeonghan, with no expression, looked down at her pale face.
“Rest. Don’t come out.”
Jeonghan said those words and closed the door, leaving.
Thud.
Suhyeon stood there with a confused expression.
‘Could he be telling me not to go out because of the glass shards?’
But his injured foot needs treatment.
As she anxiously paced inside the room, she could hear the servants outside cleaning up.
After thinking it over, Suhyeon opened the door and called for the mansion’s general manager, Choi Deok-woo.
“Excuse me, Manager Choi.”
“Yes, Madam.”
Choi Deok-woo quickly approached, and Suhyeon spoke with a troubled look on her face.
“I think my husband stepped on some glass shards and hurt his foot. Could you please check on him?”
Manager Choi looked a bit surprised but immediately replied.
“I’ll check on it.”
“Thank you.”
Suhyeon watched as Manager Choi headed toward Jeonghan’s study and slowly closed the door.
Thud.
Suhyeon walked over to the sofa with a troubled expression and sat down.
The moment her eyes met Jeonghan’s, when he had picked her up just moments ago, was etched in her mind like a shard of glass.
