Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 91
“Why would he go as far as injuring his foot…?”
It was an action completely different from the usual behavior of Do Jeonghan, one that I couldn’t understand.
He often did things that were hard to understand, but this time it made even less sense.
What possible reason could there be for Do Jeonghan to risk injuring his own foot just to move me to a safe place?
It was something I couldn’t comprehend, and it only left me feeling confused.
That night, Do Jeonghan didn’t come to the bedroom. Suhyeon tossed and turned in bed.
‘Did he get hurt on his foot…?’
I thought that might be the reason he hadn’t come.
I vividly recalled the foot stained red with blood and the slippers soaked in blood.
Why?
A question mark floated around in my mind.
When he approached with a scary expression, I thought maybe he was angry and broke the vase, but I still couldn’t understand why he’d moved me to the room while injuring his foot.
I didn’t get why his face seemed to only register the wound when I asked if he had hurt himself while grabbing the door.
‘He couldn’t have been seriously injured… right?’
Suhyeon sighed as he turned over.
“Since we don’t usually eat together and he spends most of his time at the company, it was hard to confirm how badly he was injured.”
It wasn’t until the next day that Suhyeon was able to ask Manager Choi.
“Did you go to the hospital with your husband yesterday?”
“I called the doctor to have him treated. He will have some difficulty moving for a while, but fortunately, the nerves weren’t damaged, so once the wound heals, he should be fine.”
Hearing Manager Choi’s words, Suhyeon felt a moment of relief.
“Ah… I see. But is it okay for him to go to work?”
“I tried to stop him, but he didn’t listen. I’m sorry.”
At Manager Choi’s words, Suhyeon quickly waved his hand.
“No. It’s not something you need to apologize for. Thank you for your concern.”
Bowing his head, Suhyeon climbed the stairs.
As Suhyeon recalled that memory, he let out a small sigh.
The unresolved question from that day troubled his mind for several days, but about a week later, when he returned to the bedroom, he forgot about it.
When he came back, he engaged in such rough and intense actions that it left no room for other thoughts.
“……”
Suhyeon, lost in thought, looked at the monitor.
What had he been thinking when he saved him?
A person who isn’t at all kind.
“Seol, Manager.”
At the sudden call, Suhyeon flinched.
“Hmm?”
When he looked up, Han Eun-sol, an employee, was looking at him with a puzzled expression.
“It’s almost time for the meeting…”
Ah.
When he looked at the clock, the meeting time was almost upon him.
“Sorry. I’m going.”
Suhyeon quickly stood up and said.
After the meeting, Suhyeon had lunch outside and, with the employees, grabbed coffee and headed back to the company.
It was autumn, but the heat still hadn’t let up, so everyone was holding iced coffee in their hands.
“At that time, Deputy Director Oh stepped up and said the team over there was in chaos.”
“Why?”
“Oh, that person is known for making things worse.”
“Ah, I see. It must have been quite a mess then.”
Listening to the employees chattering, Suhyeon fell into other thoughts.
In Do Jeonghan’s thoughts.
While having a meal and chatting with the employees, memories of Do
Jeonghan were floating around in Suhyeon’s mind.
Do Jeonghan had wanted to forget it all, so after the divorce, he intentionally avoided thinking about it. Perhaps that was why, once a memory surfaced, it quickly triggered others.
It might have been because of the doubts surrounding the marriage itself.
Doubts about what Do Jeonghan was hiding.
Then, suddenly, Suhyeon felt a gaze.
Suhyeon turned his head towards the direction of the gaze.
‘…Ah.’
Suhyeon’s eyes widened.
On the opposite side of the road, Do Jeonghan, dressed in a suit, was standing.
It had been a long time since he had seen him like this, after his business trip.
‘Is he looking at me?’
Even from a distance, the gaze fixed on him was unmistakable, and his heart began to race.
Soon, a car stopped in front of him.
Screech-
Do Jeonghan, who had been looking at Suhyeon, got into the car.
“Manager Seol, what are you doing?”
Suhyeon was watching until the car disappeared from his sight when an employee called him.
“Ah, no.”
Only then did Suhyeon snap out of his thoughts and take a step forward.
As he walked back to the company, he looked back, but the car was already nowhere to be seen.
“……”
Suhyeon felt a strange emptiness and stared at the spot where it had disappeared.
Once he entered the office, Suhyeon asked Jung Hyun-woo.
“Did Director Do Jeonghan come by?”
“Huh? He didn’t come. Was there something you needed from him?”
