Prey (Lee Seohan) - Chapter 92
Hyun-woo, whose eyes widened, received a smile from Suhyeon, who tried to hide his awkwardness.
“No, I think I confused my schedule.”
Returning to his desk, Suhyeon placed his takeout coffee cup on the table.
Wasn’t he here for something related to the company?
‘…Then why was he standing there, staring at me?’
Suhyeon’s gaze on the coffee cup grew complicated.
At that time, Jeonghan was sitting in the back seat of the car, staring out the window.
Was it noon?
He tried to gauge the time by looking at the sunlight pouring in.
Due to the back-to-back overseas business trips, he had trouble adjusting to the time difference.
This trip to Germany was no different; the tight schedule left him barely any time to sleep.
Yet, as soon as he entered the country, the thought that crossed his mind was that he wanted to see Seol Suhyeon.
It was serious.
He twisted his lips into a smile but was fully aware that his feelings for Seol Suhyeon were beyond his control.
He had assigned a bodyguard to keep track of her every move.
After confirming that Seol Suhyeon was having lunch outside, he turned the car around and headed to the company.
Standing on the opposite side of the road, he could see her walking with the company people.
Did you know that I need to see you from afar to feel at ease?
Even during that time when you gained freedom after the divorce, I was still watching you like this.
I couldn’t get closer, just watching from a distance.
I stood there for so long, just to see that bright face of yours.
A small laugh escaped.
Seol Suhyeon would never know.
As Jeonghan was quietly lost in thought, staring out the window, Manager Joo’s phone rang.
With Bluetooth earbuds in, he spoke.
“It’s Joo Il-jun.”
For a moment, Joo Il-jun, who had been listening to the other person, lowered his voice.
“…Is that so?”
Jeonghan’s gaze shifted to the rearview mirror.
“No. You did well. Yes. Please contact me again if you hear from them.”
After ending the call, Joo Il-jun immediately made eye contact with the rearview mirror and reported to Jeonghan.
“Jang Gyu-han said Seol Hee-nam contacted him.”
“What for?”
Jeonghan asked, his voice flat and unchanging.
“He asked if anyone had contacted him.”
“And then?”
“He said he had cut off contact, telling them not to contact him as he was trying to move on from the past. It seems we’ll need to keep an eye on it.”
“……”
Without a word, Jeonghan turned his gaze to the window. His eyes sharpened.
Wasn’t it already too late?
He had already approached Jang Gyu-han when he was in the U.S.
Jeonghan recalled that time.
His father, Lee Cheol-eum, had died in a car accident. It was the fault of a truck driver who lost control on a rainy road.
The truck driver, who had been drinking, sustained minor injuries, but Lee Cheol-eum died on the spot.
While in the U.S., Jeonghan investigated the incident again.
Upon investigation, he found that the person responsible for the traffic accident had been released unusually early from prison.
It was an alcohol-related traffic accident resulting in death, but he was released after only three months of serving time.
Even though his only family, his wife, had died shortly afterward, it seemed like a ridiculously short sentence compared to the five-year prison term he had received.
It was also suspicious that someone who had supported themselves as a truck driver and had gambling debts was now running a respectable business in the Philippines after his release.
After Manager Joo hired people in Korea and the Philippines to investigate, he went to the Philippines.
The man, who was running a rather large factory and was addressed as the boss, didn’t have the slightest shadow of someone who had killed another person.
Jeonghan kept watching and then called out to him.
“Jang Gyu-han?”
He flinched and turned around. No one here called him by that name anymore since he had already changed it.
“Who are you to call me…?”
“If I told you I’m the son of the person you killed in that car accident…”
“!”
Jang Gyu-han’s eyes widened.
“I thought you might know why I’ve come.”
“W-What do you mean…?”
When he received the business card, Jang Gyu-han went pale.
‘T-That’s a lie. I didn’t hit a person in Cheonggye!’
‘Whether you knew or didn’t know, you killed a person, and it’s strange that you were released after only three months.’
‘…!’
‘I personally looked into it.’
Jang Gyu-han’s grip tightened on the business card.
‘Wouldn’t it be better for you to explain first, rather than me saying it out loud?’
