Prey - Chapter 14
He calmly gazed down at Suhyeon’s fierce glare and said in a low voice,
“…That seems to be right.”
Suhyeon froze for a moment.
“What did you say?”
As she incredulously repeated his words, a sudden realization hit her.
*Could it be…*
Did Jeonghan want to see her in a state of confusion, feeling scared and anxious, wanting her to be uncomfortable?
‘To torment me?’
‘I can’t let this happen.’
Suhyeon quickly gathered her swirling emotions.
‘If that’s what you want, I won’t give you the satisfaction of seeing it.’
Forcing her feelings down, Suhyeon met his gaze directly.
“Do whatever you want. It won’t go your way.”
She said sharply before turning away.
At that moment, Jeonghan grabbed her hand from behind.
“Let go…!”
As Suhyeon tried to shake him off, Jeonghan forced something into her hand.
When she paused and looked, it was a ring case.
“You said you didn’t like the wedding ring.”
Jeonghan looked directly into her eyes.
“Wear it. If you don’t want to be caught every time I see it.”
“!”
Suhyeon’s eyes widened.
His low voice was not angry, but that made it all the more intimidating.
His cold, piercing gaze felt like it could bind her in place.
Suhyeon’s dark eyes trembled with confusion.
After finishing his point, Jeonghan let go of her hand and turned away.
He walked ahead toward the entrance and opened the door.
*Click.*
‘…Ah!’
Suhyeon, holding the ring case, finally snapped back to reality and followed him.
“I don’t need this, so take it back right now…”
Thud!
The door closed right in front of her. Suhyeon, gripping the ring case, glared at the closed door.
“Ha.”
She let out a frustrated breath, her shoulders shaking as she roughly brushed her hair back.
Lifting her head, Suhyeon stared fiercely at his door before walking back to her own place. She opened the door and slammed it shut behind her.
Bang!
In a fit of anger, Suhyeon entered her home, kicking off her shoes.
“Is he out of his mind?”
She threw the ring case onto the table, glaring at it as if it were Jeonghan himself.
“Why should I be threatened like this by my ex-husband?”
No matter how much she thought about it, it felt ridiculous.
He had never insisted on her wearing the ring during their marriage; she had only put it on according to the circumstances on days when they had outside events.
“But now, why…”
Suhyeon let out an annoyed sigh. No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t understand.
Was this yet another attempt to put her in a difficult and awkward position? Did he really go as far as buying a ring for that purpose?
She hadn’t opened it, but if it was brought by Joo Il-jun, Jeonghan’s secretary, it was likely the most expensive jewelry available.
Thinking that made her feel even worse; it felt like she was being forced to wear a costly shackle.
“…There’s no way I’ll wear it. Are you out of your mind?”
She glared at the ring, her voice cold as she spat the words out.
Jeonghan, who had suddenly reappeared to disrupt her peaceful life, was utterly terrifying.
He acted in ways that made no sense at all.
The reason Jeonghan was doing this to her was less about madness and more likely for revenge.
After all, he had been publicly humiliated due to the divorce lawsuit, a scandal that could affect not just the nation but, considering his position, even the world. It was understandable that he would hold a grudge.
Was he intending to make her feel suffocated every time she saw his face, whether at work or home? Or was it a threat to monitor her, no matter where she was?
There was no point in trying to escape; whether she changed companies or moved elsewhere, it would mean the same thing.
For Jeonghan, who had become the official head of Cheonkyung, that wasn’t a difficult task at all.
However, there was one point that Suhyeon couldn’t understand.
Was he really moving next door to the woman he had humiliated?
Why go to such lengths?
As she thought about it with a confused expression, she shook her head.
‘…It must mean that his grudge runs that deep.’
No matter how she thought about it, that was the only reason that made sense.
Revenge.
