Prey - Chapter 20
Suhyeon was about to ask what he was doing, but the words caught in her throat when she saw Jeonghan’s serious expression, devoid of any trace of a smile.
His eyes scanned her face closely, his large hand holding her firmly, with a focused intensity.
Feeling his gaze touch every part of her face, Suhyeon tensed up involuntarily.
“W-what are you doing?”
She twisted her head to escape his hand.
Jeonghan, who had been observing her with his deep eyes, asked,
“Have you always had motion sickness?”
“No.”
Suhyeon, responding coldly, got into the car.
As he briefly looked down at her fastening her seatbelt, he closed the passenger door and headed for the driver’s seat.
Watching him, Suhyeon bit her lip.
‘Does he even realize what he’s doing?’
There were already many people who had recognized Do Jeonghan, and what if someone had just taken a photo?
Of course, his secretary team would handle it, but Suhyeon felt anxious because his actions were far too bold and inappropriate to just be brushed off as something a secretary would do.
Click.
Jeonghan, now seated in the driver’s seat, adjusted the car’s air circulation system.
“Let me know if you’re feeling unwell.”
…Ah, motion sickness?
Realizing he was referring to what she had mentioned earlier, Suhyeon stared at him blankly for a moment.
Since when did you ever worry about me?
That thought sparked some defiance in her, but for some reason, her cheeks felt hot. She
turned her gaze to the window and answered,
“I understand, Director.”
Not wanting to prolong the conversation, Suhyeon responded in a businesslike tone.
Jeonghan slowly started the car. He was driving at a lower speed than before.
‘Is he really doing this because I said I was feeling nauseous?’
Suhyeon, taken aback by Jeonghan’s unexpected behavior, tightly shut her eyes.
It seemed better to pretend to sleep due to motion sickness.
As she kept her eyes closed, the memory of her first encounter with Do Jeonghan unfolded in her mind—a memory from five years ago when she became entangled with that man.
It was the time when her terrible stepmother and her father deceived her, making her believe that her mother, who was in a vegetative state, was dead.
Five years ago.
On the rooftop of the Cheonkyung Group headquarters, Suhyeon looked at the man standing across from her.
“Why did you call for me?”
Kim Hyeongjin, three years older than her, was a colleague in the same department.
He was good-looking and had a warm personality, making him quite popular with women.
“Suhyeon, um… I have something to tell you.”
With an unusually tense expression, Hyeongjin adjusted his glasses.
“Um, I’ve been meaning to tell you, Suhyeon…”
Just as Hyeongjin seemed to muster his determination to speak, his phone rang.
He pulled out his phone with a startled expression, glanced at the screen, and looked even more flustered.
“Just a moment.”
Hyeongjin turned away with an awkward gesture, asking for understanding, and answered the call.
“Yes, Manager. I’m just… Huh? Oh, that? I passed that last week… Oh! Right! I’m so sorry. I’ll head over right now, so please wait a moment!”
After finishing the call, Hyeongjin turned to Suhyeon with an apologetic look.
“Suhyeon, I’m sorry, but I need to take care of something urgent first, so I’ll have to postpone
what I was going to say.”
“That’s fine. Go ahead,” she replied with a smile, guessing the nature of the call. Hyeongjin relaxed at her expression.
“Thank you. Are you not heading down now?”
“Go ahead and leave first.”
“Then I’ll go ahead.”
Hyeongjin smiled brightly and turned to head toward the entrance in a hurry. After his figure completely disappeared, Suhyeon took a small breath in and exhaled.
‘…It really seemed like he was about to confess, didn’t it?’
Having seen Hyeongjin take care of her during work and at company gatherings, she had somewhat sensed that he had feelings for her.
How awkward.
Suhyeon’s eyebrows slightly furrowed.
It was something she had experienced several times due to her striking appearance, and it was uncomfortable every time. Right now, she has no desire to be in a relationship with anyone. She
only wanted to focus on her work.
‘I should head down now.’
She had sent Hyeongjin ahead because she didn’t want to go down with him.
As she checked her wristwatch and lifted her head, she suddenly locked eyes with someone.
‘Huh?’
Suhyeon froze in place.
There was a man standing by the railing, smoking a cigarette and looking this way.
