Prey - Chapter 23
When Suhyeon threw her gaze at Seol Hana, Seol Hana’s face immediately hardened.
“What did you say?”
Park In-ok, who had been pretending to be sick all along, also quickly changed her expression.
“Are you crazy? She’s still young!”
As Park In-ok jumped up, glaring, Suhyeon calmly met her eyes.
“She’s only two years younger, so how young can she really be? Wouldn’t the other party prefer someone younger anyway?”
“…What? Ha!”
Park In-ok let out a hollow laugh as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and her face turned red with anger. She glared at Suhyeon with eyes full of fury, her cheek twitching in rage.
“Oh my, look at this girl’s attitude. Even if a proposal came for your younger sister, as her older sister, you should be the one to step up. But you’re trying to push it onto your sister?”
“You said it’s a great proposal from an excellent family. By that logic, wouldn’t it make sense to offer a good opportunity to my younger sister?”
Suhyeon responded, not backing down, and Park In-ok and Park Young-hye exchanged quick, uneasy glances.
Frowning, Park In-ok spoke.
“Well, that’s true, but the other side specifically asked for you, Suhyeon, so there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Suhyeon narrowed her eyes.
“They specifically asked for me? From their side?”
“Yes. They said they liked you after seeing your picture.”
Park Young-hye quickly chimed in from the side. Suhyeon glanced at her and curled her lips into a smirk.
“Is that true? You didn’t happen to not send Seol Hana’s picture, did you?”
“What are you saying to your aunt…!”
“Anyway, it has nothing to do with me.”
Cutting off her sharp voice, Suhyeon continued, staring directly at Park In-ok.
“In case you’ve forgotten, I left this house more than four years ago, and since then, I haven’t taken a single penny from here. You understand what that means, right?”
“Ugh….”
As things didn’t go her way, Park In-ok’s lips trembled with anger.
Suhyeon glared at her.
It had been four years since Park In-ok brought Seol Hana into the house, right after Suhyeon’s mother had died.
Suhyeon hadn’t returned to that house since the woman who immediately took over the master bedroom after the first wife’s death moved in. It had been during her time studying abroad, so she hadn’t even been living there.
“I’ll be going now.”
Suhyeon, staring into Park In-ok’s rage-flushed eyes, turned to leave.
Park In-ok quickly stood up and blocked her path.
“Ah!”
Suddenly, Park In-ok grabbed Suhyeon by the hair.
“You wretched girl! I’ve tolerated you long enough, but now you’re showing your true colors! Even if you haven’t taken anything for four years, your father raised you with his money, and that’s why you’re working at a big company now!”
With a furious, devilish face, veins bulging on her forehead, Park In-ok screamed.
Suhyeon grabbed the arm that was yanking her hair as if to tear her scalp off and forcefully pushed it away.
“Are you insane?!”
Smack!
“…Ugh!”
When Suhyeon pushed her off, Park In-ok stumbled backward, losing balance due to her own rough grip.
Suhyeon brushed her disheveled hair aside and glared at Park In-ok.
“If you had even a shred of conscience, you wouldn’t be saying things like this to the daughter of the wife whose husband you stole in your affair.”
Park In-ok’s eyes widened in shock.
“You, you….”
Her eyes quivered with humiliation, and Suhyeon calmly finished fixing her tangled hair.
“You’re really going to act like this even if everyone ends up ruined because of you?!”
Unable to control her rage, Park In-ok screamed furiously.
Suhyeon grabbed Park In-ok’s arm as she tried to lunge at her again.
“Aagh!”
A startled Park In-ok tried to pull her painfully gripped arm free, but Suhyeon was taller and stronger.
“Ugh… Are you not going to let go? Ow, ow! It hurts! I said it hurts!”
“Hey, let go of my mom’s hand! You crazy woman!”
Seol Hana screamed and rushed toward Suhyeon. But instead, Suhyeon tightened her grip,
digging painfully into Park In-ok’s arm, causing her face to twist in agony.
“I said it hurts!!”
“That crazy woman, seriously…!”
Just as Park Young-hye was about to rush at her, Suhyeon spoke to Park In-ok.
“If you ever lay a hand on me again, I’ll sue you for assault. Keep that in mind.”
“…Ah!”
Suhyeon shoved Park In-ok’s arm away. As In-ok staggered backward, Hana and Young-hye rushed to catch her.
Ignoring Park In-ok, who was now red-faced and gasping with her face twisted in pain,
Suhyeon turned her back and walked away.
“That crazy woman. Mom, are you okay? What are you trying to hide from someone like her? Just tell her everything already.”
