Prey - Chapter 28
Again…!
In an instant, Suhyeon’s eyelashes trembled as they were consumed by the dark gaze filled with desire.
Unable to hide her bewilderment, her trembling black eyes met his warm, brown eyes, which glistened with intensity.
Suhyeon took a shaky breath.
I have to say something.
She should snap back and ask what he meant, but her lips merely moved, and no words came to mind.
“……”
Jeonghan, who had been looking down at her face closely, stepped back.
He shifted his gaze forward and grabbed the steering wheel.
“I have an appointment tomorrow, so I’ll be staying here tonight. Let’s have dinner first when we arrive at the hotel.”
“I’m not interested.”
She was angry at his one-sided remark about staying over, but she immediately rejected the idea of having dinner together.
Jeonghan looked at Suhyeon. Her face had slightly hardened.
When he had come close just moments ago, she felt as if he had seen through all her bewilderment, leaving her in a mess of emotions.
Even though she could feel Jeonghan’s gaze fixed on her, Suhyeon stubbornly kept her mouth shut.
Jeonghan spoke in a low voice.
“Is this how Cheonkyung Company entertains people?”
“Excuse me?”
Suhyeon looked up at him. His cold gaze was directed at her.
Knowing it was a project involving astronomical sums, she replied coldly,
“Director Do Jeonghan, you really know how to threaten people.”
“Of course. That’s how I’ve survived in this industry.”
He laughed lightly, as if he had no intention of hiding the fact that he was threatening her.
The smile on his perfectly shaped face was annoyingly charming.
“Let’s go. Staying hungry won’t benefit either of us.”
Without waiting for her response, Jeonghan started the car.
In the end, Suhyeon found herself sitting across from Jeonghan at the hotel restaurant.
It was a private room, separate from the hall, so they were free from external scrutiny, but the fact that they were alone together made her uncomfortable.
“Are you feeling better now?”
“What do you mean?”
Startled by the sudden voice, Suhyeon shot him a cold glance with her eyes wide open.
Jeonghan quietly stared at her.
“Motion sickness.”
Suhyeon hesitated. He still remembered that.
“I’m fine.”
Jeonghan lightly nodded at her response and picked up the wine bottle.
“Would you like some?”
“I’m fine, thank you.”
When Suhyeon declined, he poured wine only into his glass.
Even as he held the glass with his thick, manly fingers and brought it to his lips, Jeonghan’s gaze remained fixed on Suhyeon.
‘This is uncomfortable.’
Throughout the meal, Suhyeon stubbornly ignored his persistent stare.
“……”
Even while silently eating, Suhyeon felt the sweat accumulating on her hands from Jeonghan’s intense gaze.
‘This is torture.’
She nervously continued to force herself to eat, fearing she might accidentally drop her knife and fork.
When Jeonghan noticed that her plate was nearly empty, he set his glass down and said,
“Let’s go upstairs.”
Suhyeon glanced at the wine bottle on the table where he had been sitting. Despite the short time they had spent there, it was nearly empty.
‘Is it that he wasn’t hungry but just wanted to drink?’
To only drink wine without touching the food was peculiar.
Did Do Jeonghan find watching others eat entertaining?
If that were the case, it was a terrible taste.
Determined never to share a meal with him again, Suhyeon stepped into the elevator with him.
……Clunk.
As soon as the door closed, the surroundings became quiet.
Suhyeon glanced briefly at the man standing next to her. His high nose, sharp like a blade, caught her attention.
‘He still shows no signs of having drunk at all.’
As Suhyeon quietly observed his flawless demeanor without a hint of disarray, she consciously averted her gaze.
Jeonghan remained silent until they arrived at the front of the room after getting off the elevator.
“Thank you for your hard work today. Rest well, and I’ll see you tomorrow,”
Suhyeon greeted him first, clearly eager to get into her room. Jeonghan looked down at her.
“Did you forget something?”
“Excuse me?”
As she was about to turn away, Suhyeon turned back to face him.
Jeonghan pulled out her car key from his pocket and held it out to her.
“Oh, right.”
She thought it was unusual for him to return it so readily, expecting to give it back when she returned tomorrow, and reached out her hand.
But the key didn’t come free.
‘Huh?’
Furrowing her brow, Suhyeon looked up at him. Jeonghan was holding onto the tip of the car key while looking down at her.
“!”
Suhyeon’s eyes widened. His gaze was burning hot, as if it were aflame.
Caught in his smoldering eyes, she inhaled sharply as Jeonghan spoke softly.
