Prey - Chapter 3
All that remained was to capture the defeated side’s miserable expressions post-trial and upload it—though Seol Suhyeon’s face would have to be blurred out.
“But isn’t Seol Suhyeon hilarious?”
“Huh?”
The yawning reporter glanced at the other.
“No, seriously, isn’t it ridiculous? After Cheonkyung went out of their way to save her family’s failing company, she turns around and files for divorce against Do Jeonghan?”
“Her family company? Oh, HN? Didn’t that place go under again?”
“Still, when they got married, Cheonkyung supported them so much. And now, after sucking up Cheonkyung’s money, she files for divorce? Isn’t she shameless?”
Another reporter nearby chimed in.
“A woman who looks like that must be ruthless underneath it all. She’s probably planning to squeeze a huge settlement out of Do Jeonghan and then live the rest of her life flaunting her wealth and chasing men.”
“So that’s why Do Jeonghan didn’t make this trial private. He wants to make sure she gets publicly humiliated on a grand scale.”
“She deserves it.”
The reporters’ scornful gazes were directed at Seol Suhyeon, who sat at the plaintiff’s table.
She sat with just one lawyer beside her, seemingly calm. She was simply sitting there quietly, as she always did.
Not once did she glance at the man in the defendant’s seat.
On paper, he was still her husband.
“We will now announce the verdict. Case number…”
As the presiding judge began to speak, the courtroom fell silent.
The scattered gazes of the room turned toward the judge, a man in his late sixties, wearing a tired expression—likely from the immense public attention this case had drawn. His face made it clear that he hadn’t slept properly for days.
“The plaintiff and defendant will divorce. The defendant will provide the plaintiff with alimony, including four buildings located in Gangnam, as well as overseas properties and 10 billion won in cash. Additionally…”
“What? What is this?”
“Alimony?”
As the judge’s words continued, the courtroom suddenly burst into chaos.
Even the reporters who had been dozing off snapped to attention, staring at the judge in shock.
Unlike the surprised journalists, the elite lawyers representing Cheonkyung appeared unfazed, as though they had anticipated this outcome.
Seol Suhyeon, who had been staring blankly ahead, met her lawyer’s eyes. Her gaze trembled slightly.
“…Did we win?”
“Yes. You won.”
The lawyer, who had just confirmed the victory, wore a look of disbelief.
“How…?”
Seol Suhyeon swallowed her confusion. She knew the power of Cheonkyung; there was no way this was a winnable case.
Her gaze shifted toward Do Jeonghan, sitting in the defendant’s seat.
‘Could it be… that man?’
She quickly brushed aside the thought, averting her eyes.
There was no way. Why would Do Jeonghan have any reason to lose this case to her?
But without that explanation, the outcome made no sense.
“Our side’s entire position was accepted. Wow, things like this actually happen. Congratulations, Ms. Suhyeon.”
“Ah, thank you.”
Hearing the lawyer’s congratulations, Seol Suhyeon smiled.
She hadn’t expected such an astronomical settlement, but the result was what mattered.
The important thing was that she had divorced Do Jeonghan.
As she stood up, she glanced at the man sitting in the defendant’s seat.
His perfectly sculpted face was looking at her, without a trace of emotion.
The moment their eyes met, Seol Suhyeon froze for a second.
‘…What?’
A slow, elegant smile curled up the corners of his lips.
The man who had just lost completely in court was smiling like a painting.
Seol Suhyeon’s gaze wavered.
‘What is this?’
While she remained locked in his gaze, Do Jeonghan stood up with his chief secretary and left the courtroom without hesitation.
Her lawyer gently tapped her on the shoulder, breaking her out of her daze.
“Let’s go, Ms. Suhyeon.”
“Ah, yes.”
Regaining her composure, Seol Suhyeon followed the lawyer out of the courtroom.
As they walked outside, the lawyer spoke,
“First, we’re going to have an interview with the reporters, so you should leave through the back door. Just head to where the car was parked earlier. The interview line is set up at the front, so the reporters won’t be there.”
“I’ll do that.”
“…Huh? But why are they heading that way?”
