Prey - Chapter 31
The credit card that Seol Hana had used freely like water had been blocked for a long time. During her time living in Gangnam, she had conquered every social club and mingled with the children of chaebols, racking up a huge amount of credit card debt.
After that financial lifeline was cut off, her irritation was through the roof, but once she took Suhyeon Seol’s alimony, everything would return to how it used to be.
“It’s our money once she gets the alimony, right?”
“Of course.”
Park In-ok smiled and gently stroked Seol Hana’s hair.
Seol Hana twisted her lips into a sneer.
“Yeah, like Suhyeon Seol could ever really hide.”
“To think she dared to act like she didn’t know us after marrying into a chaebol family thanks to your aunt and receiving such a huge amount in alimony. Does that even make sense? What a joke.”
Seol Hana naturally agreed with what Park In-ok said.
“Yeah, she’s always been such a brat.”
What a shameless girl.
Seol Hana looked bitterly at her shabby room, but soon smiled brightly.
Soon, Suhyeon Seol’s alimony would be ours.
* * * * *
Suhyeon couldn’t focus properly at work until the end of the day.
Even though she had only briefly crossed paths with Do Jeonghan that morning.
Just for that.
A frustrated sigh escaped from Suhyeon’s lips.
Thinking about her own fleeing behavior and imagining that he had probably witnessed everything from behind, the scene kept replaying in her mind.
In the end, feeling utterly drained, she left work and headed home.
‘Why did he kiss me?’
Suhyeon thought as she drove.
Was it just because of the alcohol?
Or did that kiss have the same meaning as him moving into the house next door, tangled up with work matters? To torment her?
What on earth was he thinking…
At that moment, as she was about to enter the parking lot of her building, someone suddenly darted out in front of her.
“!”
Screech-!
Startled, Suhyeon immediately slammed on the brakes.
Although she wasn’t driving fast since she was going down the slope into the parking entrance, the sharp sound of the sudden stop grated on her ears.
Suhyeon opened her eyes, which had reflexively squeezed shut.
‘W-what was that?’
Someone was blocking the car as if to prevent it from moving, standing right in front of the hood.
Upon closer look, it was Seol Hee-nam.
Ha.
As soon as she saw him, Suhyeon let out a bitter laugh and irritably got out of the car.
Bang!
She slammed the door shut and walked straight toward Seol Hee-nam, glaring at him.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Her voice was low, expressing her anger, but Seol Hee-nam, as if he were the one truly furious, started pointing at her aggressively.
“You blocked my number, and I couldn’t reach you! What else am I supposed to do? If I want to see my daughter, this is what it takes!”
“I told you clearly there’s no reason to meet! I don’t have that alimony anymore!”
Suhyeon spoke through gritted teeth, and Seol Hee-nam’s veins bulged with rage.
“The whole world knows you pocketed a huge amount of alimony, so stop talking nonsense!”
Suhyeon frowned and glanced around.
Seeing this, Seol Hee-nam smirked.
“What? Are you worried people around here will find out?”
“……”
Suhyeon glared at Seol Hee-nam again, but he smiled even more confidently, his expression growing more smug.
“So, all you have to do is give me a little bit of that alimony, and I won’t come bothering you again. Okay?”
“……”
“You got so much. A little wouldn’t make a difference to you, right? You even got several buildings, so giving up one or two wouldn’t hurt, would it? Isn’t that right?”
Although he was smiling slyly, Seol Hee-nam’s face showed an undeniable hint of anxiety, as if he was really desperate for money.
Suhyeon looked at him coldly and quietly said,
“Are you trying to blackmail me over my divorce—the daughter you sold off for money?”
Seol Hee-nam’s expression changed instantly.
“Sold off? Watch your mouth! Was that my fault? You made that choice to save your mother!”
Suhyeon stared at him directly as he raged, veins bulging in his neck.
“You call that a choice?”
How ridiculous.
Suhyeon sneered as she looked back at Seol Hee-nam.
