Prey - Chapter 56
“Excessive and unfitting.”
Recalling those words, I let out a brief laugh before wiping the smile away.
Holding the door handle, I cast a cold glance at the door next to the hallway.
The room where Seol Suhyeon was.
“……”
I looked at the door for a moment before shifting my gaze and opening the one I was holding.
I stepped inside and came to an abrupt stop.
…Is she a mermaid?
There was a woman lying on the bed, fast asleep, still in the mermaid dress she had worn at the reception.
Next to the bed was a large trunk, unopened.
Seol Suhyeon was lying on her side with her back toward me. Along the low-cut back of the dress, her delicate shoulder blades were fully exposed.
Judging by the fact that she had draped a jacket over her earlier when she got into the car, it seemed she had collapsed and fallen asleep as soon as she came in.
Seeing her asleep on the bed, with her long dress spread out and only a large trunk beside her, I felt puzzled.
‘Did Seol Suhyeon seem tired yesterday?’
For her to fall asleep without even changing her clothes or removing her makeup, she must have been quite exhausted. But I hadn’t noticed any signs of that during the wedding.
She had merely fulfilled her role diligently. Seol Suhyeon had been the picture-perfect beautiful bride.
I liked the fact that she didn’t show her emotions more than expected.
Even if that restraint was merely a performance born out of pride, trying to appear composed.
As I thought about it, I leaned my upper body toward her. The scent of roses, mixed with the smell of cosmetics, filled the air.
A familiar rose scent.
Frowning slightly, I called her name.
“Seol Suhyeon.”
“……”
There was no response.
Was this really a situation where she could sleep so deeply? Suppressing a chuckle, I called her again.
“Seol Suhyeon.”
It was only after leaning in close and calling her by her ear that Seol Suhyeon flinched and opened her eyes.
“!”
The moment her dark eyes met mine, they froze with tension.
Ha.
Seeing her stiffen as if I were an unwelcome guest after coming into someone else’s room and occupying the bed left me feeling irritated.
I watched her eyes, which were quickly filled with tension, and spoke calmly.
“It seems you were shown to the wrong room.”
At my words, Seol Suhyeon looked even more flustered, her eyes darting around.
“Ah… they said it was right at the end of the hallway.”
“This is the room on the left.”
“The left?”
Her face turned pale, as if she couldn’t believe the mistake she had made.
“I’m sorry. I must have been confused…”
As she hurriedly got up from the bed, her foot caught on the hem of her dress.
“Ah…!”
I quickly grabbed her arm as she staggered.
Our eyes met up close.
“!”
Her eyes widened even more than before. Seeing her blinking in embarrassment, with her face turning red, I realized she hadn’t intentionally come into this room to seduce me.
So, it wasn’t some grand plan to have a child quickly and secure a foothold in Cheonkyung.
I should be relieved, but I wasn’t particularly pleased.
“You should be more careful.”
“S-Sorry.”
As she quickly pulled away and tucked her hair behind her ear, the tips of her ears and her cheeks flushed completely red.
I slowly followed the gaze down her rosy cheeks and neck.
In the process, her fair skin grew even redder, as if she were witnessing something she shouldn’t see.
Seol Suhyeon, who had tucked her fallen bangs behind her ear, tightly gripped the trunk handle.
“I apologize.”
As she bowed her head and headed toward the door, I reached out first and grabbed her wrist.
She hesitated and turned back.
Seol Suhyeon’s face, turned toward me, was more flushed than I had expected.
I looked down at her face quietly and said,
“Now that I think about it, it probably doesn’t matter.”
“What does…?”
Holding her hand with one hand while loosening my tie with the other, I kept my gaze fixed on her.
“Where we spend our wedding night.”
“……!”
Her eyes shook violently.
What impulse was this?
As I looked into the despair reflected in her wide eyes, I pondered the reason for the sudden surge of desire.
A wedding night was certainly not something I had planned at all.
Ah, right. Do I want to torment her?
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Ah…!”
As I pulled her close, her delicate body easily followed. After our bodies pressed together, I looked down at her face from up close.
The rosy hue of her face had now turned pale.
“……”
Ironically, seeing her face like that ignited a dangerous impulse within me to flush her cheeks back to that rosy pink.
“Wasn’t what we did today a wedding?”
