Prey - Chapter 6
Narrowing her eyes and thinking for a moment, she changed her mind and walked over to the dresser.
‘It might be a trap.’
Although she had received a substantial amount of alimony, she felt uneasy about using it and had only spent it on this house.
She would never touch the remaining money, and that would continue to be the case.
This divorce wasn’t about needing money.
Seol Suhyeon placed the case deep inside the drawer with a cold expression.
* * *
“I’ll be leaving early.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Seol Suhyeon greeted her colleagues and left the office.
It had already been three months since she moved.
As soon as she finished organizing her new home, Seol Suhyeon began searching for a job and had recently started working at a new company.
While the company couldn’t be compared to the previous Cheonkyung Group. , it was still a solid mid-sized enterprise with good benefits and a pleasant work environment.
Though it would have been wise to take a few months off due to the fatigue from the lawsuit,
Seol Suhyeon couldn’t afford to do that.
And upon reflecting coldly since that day, it seemed to her that she had won the trial far too easily.
Her law firm was incomparable to his legal team.
Yet, she had unilaterally won the divorce case.
‘Yes. This is a trap. So I need to keep this ring for now.’
There might come a day when he would ask for it back.
The money she had saved was all used up for the wedding to avoid taking any from Seol Hee-nam, so she had to work to avoid touching the alimony.
‘It’s better to stay busy.’
If she just stayed home, she felt she would sink deep into the memories of the past five years.
That’s why she quickly found a job and, fortunately, was smoothly adapting to her current company.
‘At least it was thanks to hiding my face during the marriage.’
Seol Suhyeon let out a self-deprecating laugh.
Although she had participated in various events where photos could be taken, Do Jeonghan’s competent secretary team ensured that no photos showing her face were made public.
‘If my face had been revealed back then, I probably wouldn’t be able to find a job, let alone live in this country.’
That was a relief. Truly.
“Thank you. Goodbye.”
Ding-
After picking up sushi from a nearby sushi restaurant, Seol Suhyeon headed home.
Once she arrived, she quickly took a shower.
She set up her soup and sushi on the coffee table in front of the sofa to eat while watching TV, then pressed the remote.
After returning from a visit to the United States with the heads of domestic conglomerates, the president…
“!”
As soon as the screen turned on, Seol Suhyeon’s body froze at the sight of Do Jeonghan.
He was on the screen with the leaders of the four major corporations, and among them, he was the youngest, grabbing attention with his striking appearance.
…Ah.
Taken aback by the unexpectedly chilling image of the man, Seol Suhyeon snapped back to reality and pressed the remote.
Switching channels quickly, she landed on a variety show where the panelists were laughing loudly.
As Seol Suhyeon fixed her gaze on the show, she let out a long breath.
‘I was holding my breath.’
Her pale forehead frowned.
‘Why am I so surprised when I didn’t even run into him…?’
Even if they did meet, she had no relationship with Do Jeonghan anymore.
Reminding herself of that fact, Seol Suhyeon picked up a piece of sushi with her chopsticks and brought it to her mouth.
As she mechanically chewed, memories of her married life with the man she had just seen flooded back.
It was early in their marriage. She was at home when several shopping bags suddenly arrived.
‘These are from Ms. Park In-ok for you.’
When she heard that they were from Park In-ok, she looked again and saw several designer dresses inside.
Was she trying to show off?
With Do Jeonghan’s support, her father Seol Hee-nam’s struggling business was thriving, so her stepmother Park In-ok could continue to play the VVIP role at the department store.
Perhaps it was a small gesture of gratitude for that.
Or maybe it was just a pretense to show she was looking out for her stepdaughter in this way?
In any case, it was unwelcome.
When Do Jeonghan came home and saw the stacked shopping bags, he asked,
‘What’s that?’
‘They’re clothes, I think. My stepmother sent them.’
Do Jeonghan shifted his gaze from the box and looked at her with cold eyes.
‘Throw them all away.’
