Prey - Chapter 7
“…What?”
I asked again at the unexpected words.
He met my gaze with cold eyes and said,
“Throw it away.”
I had never intended to wear the clothes sent by Park In-ok in the first place. I thought I could just donate them since they are still in good condition. Or return them as they were.
I didn’t want to receive anything sent by that woman.
But as he turned to leave after giving the command, I unknowingly spoke to his back,
“There’s no need to throw them away.”
Do Jeonghan stopped and turned around.
As his cold gaze pierced through me, I felt tense.
Do Jeonghan was always the kind of man who made people feel nervous with such a stare.
“Did I push my luck?”
For a moment, I regretted it under his cold gaze, but I didn’t look away.
Since the first time I came to this house, the dressing room had been filled with all kinds of clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry.
There were already more than enough of them, and I had no intention of using what I received from Park In-ok, but I felt offended by the way he spoke, as if the clothes could be thrown away so easily, like they meant nothing.
It felt as if he was saying that I, too, could be discarded at any time.
A man who has no interest in anything other than s*x—so it’s probably right to think of him as filthy. He only needs a s****l partner, after all.
Even though I knew that, saying what I did might have been a weak act of defiance.
No matter how much I believed I had no right, it wasn’t pleasant to feel humiliated right in front of him.
“…..”
Without any expression, Do Jeonghan walked toward me. Then, he lifted the shopping bag and pulled out the clothes inside.
“Wait a minute, what are you…!”
Rip!
In the man’s rough grip, the fabric tore in half. He pulled out each piece of clothing from the bags and did the same, one by one.
With trembling eyes, I watched as Do Jeonghan tossed the last torn piece of clothing carelessly in front of me.
“Now throw it away.”
He said coldly, turning his head before walking away again.
The clothes, now torn into rags, were scattered across the floor.
“…Even thinking about it again makes me feel awful.”
Seol Suhyeon frowned as she recalled the past.
That incident had made her realize her situation from the very beginning of her marriage.
Having been forced into a marriage she didn’t want, and now facing her husband’s contempt, it felt like her soul was being eroded.
Even after that event, Do Jeonghan forcibly took her body that night as well, as if to say her only use was for s*x.
Clack.
Seol Suhyeon set her chopsticks down on the table.
Seeing Do Jeonghan’s face on TV and the sudden memories that resurfaced had completely ruined her appetite.
“This is my favorite sushi place too…”
With a bitter sigh, Seol Suhyeon forced herself to eat about half of the meal before finally dumping the rest into the food disposal.
* * *
The next day, Seol Suhyeon was unexpectedly summoned to the director’s office at work.
As she and Deputy Section Chief Jung Hyunwoo rode the elevator together, they exchanged puzzled glances.
“Do you know why we’re being called?”
Seol Suhyeon asked, and Jung Hyunwoo tilted his head slightly in confusion.
“I’m not sure either.”
Since this sort of thing hadn’t happened before, his face was also full of questions.
“The director called us, so I guess we just have to go and find out,” he said with a shrug.
“Yes,”
Seol Suhyeon nodded and turned her gaze forward.
Why would someone so high up summon her, especially since she hadn’t been with the company for long?
With curiosity building, they headed to the director’s office, where the secretary guided them to the conference room.
Knock, knock.
Jung Hyunwoo knocked on the conference room door, his face showing slight tension as he opened it.
“Excuse me,”
He said, entering the room. Seol Suhyeon followed him inside, bowing politely.
“Hello.”
When she lifted her gaze again, her eyes widened in shock.
“!”
Why is he here?
She couldn’t believe it.
The man who had haunted her thoughts all night, the one she had seen on TV just last night, was sitting there with Director Han Heetae.
Do Jeonghan—what was he doing here?
Even as she saw his trademark arrogant face and indifferent eyes right in front of her, it still didn’t feel real.
“Come, have a seat here,” the director said.
“Yes,”
Seol Suhyeon snapped out of her daze as she heard Director Han and Jung Hyunwoo’s conversation.
This was the workplace.
And she was sitting in front of Do Jeonghan.
