Prey - Chapter 75
Suhyeon, feeling self-conscious about her flushed face, focused her eyes.
“I didn’t want to get in the car regardless of my will.”
“Well, we’re going to the same place anyway.”
Ah… so they’re coming to the next house today.
For a moment, Suhyeon felt a strange sense of relief.
Relief? Why am I?
In the next moment, she immediately felt resentment.
“Weren’t you in America yesterday?”
Yesterday? Today? What’s the time difference?
Perhaps due to the effects of alcohol, she couldn’t accurately calculate the time with America.
Jeonghan, interpreting her furrowed brows as a reprimand for why he was here, spoke without a hint of a smile.
“I wanted to see you, so I flew over as soon as I stamped the contract.”
“Pardon?”
Suhyeon blinked as she met his gaze looking down at her.
“You’re already drunk.”
“What…?”
Jeonghan leaned in closer, lowering his face.
Beneath her increasingly furrowed brows, her dark, shining eyes trembled.
Perhaps due to the alcohol, Jeonghan observed the confusion she couldn’t hide.
“You’re not even happy to see me.”
His low voice sounded close in the quiet of the car.
“……”
Jeonghan lifted Suhyeon’s chin, holding her face still as she tightly pressed her lips together.
His gaze moved from her slightly raised cheeks to her reddened eyes, eventually settling on her lips.
Suhyeon swallowed hard at the burning gaze that touched her lips.
His eyes slowly rose again, wrapping around hers, as his voice flowed low.
“…Yet, I’m the one who’s the problem for wanting to see this face enough to come to the dinner meeting.”
“Pardon…?”
What did he just say?
Suhyeon’s lips parted slightly.
His gaze darkened as it fell upon her lips.
“I’m always the problem. Seol Suhyeon.”
Jeonghan coldly spat out before releasing her face and stepping back.
As she watched Jeonghan’s sleek profile move away again, Suhyeon could hear the chaotic beating of her heart.
Why…
Why does he keep saying things that make me feel strange?
Suhyeon thought it was because she was drunk, yet she felt a strange surge of anger.
Since the moment her face was held, she couldn’t move at all. Captured by those intense eyes, all she could do was barely exhale her heated breath.
“Why do I always end up like this in front of Jeonghan?”
That man doesn’t say anything to me…
Why? Why, exactly??
The emotions that had remained as question marks began to morph into anger.
He never said such things during their marriage; why was he shaking her now, and why was she stuck, unable to move in response to him? The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
“It’s the alcohol.”
Suhyeon tried to suppress the rising feelings directed at Jeonghan in her mind.
She shouldn’t get too emotional because of the alcohol. First, she should go home, sleep, and if she felt the same way when she woke up tomorrow, then she would deal with it then. That made sense.
But even while thinking this, her emotions strangely intensified during the drive home.
Frustration, resentment, and annoyance filled her throat, making her feel as if it was being choked tight. With her brows furrowed, Suhyeon brought her hand to her neck.
Screech.
At that moment, the car arrived at the underground parking lot and came to a stop.
“Thank you for the ride, Director Joo.”
Suhyeon quickly said this to Director Joo before getting out of the car.
After Jeonghan got out from the opposite door, the car drove away.
Suhyeon glared at the man walking toward her, separated by the gap between the cars.
“Even that figure looks impressive, which makes me so angry.”
Suhyeon bit her lip tightly.
All the emotions stirred up by Jeonghan were about to burst out all at once, like a balloon with its plug suddenly pulled.
Jeonghan stood in front of her with his hands in his pockets.
Looking straight up at him, Suhyeon said,
“Stop being frustrating and tell me exactly what you meant when you said that. Why did you marry me? It’s related to my father, isn’t it?”
“……”
Jeonghan looked down at her without answering.
“Answer me. Hurry.”
“……”
With her eyes reddened, Suhyeon shouted,
“I said answer me!”
With a soft thud.
Unexpected tears overflowed and ran down her cheeks.
She thought what had burst out was anger toward him, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Without wiping away her tears, Suhyeon glared at Jeonghan.
I don’t want to be swayed by you anymore.
If there are facts I don’t know, I will find out everything, and I will hate you just like before.
I have to do that.
Disliking the way her heart was increasingly shaken in front of Jeonghan, Suhyeon focused her eyes.
