Prey - Chapter 9
Suhyeon liked the company, but she would rather find another job than get entangled with Jeonghan.
The moment she saw him earlier, she barely resisted the urge to walk out. She held back only because storming out would have been rude, especially in front of the director.
Even now, her feelings remained unchanged, but she had no intention of letting herself be controlled by Jeonghan’s manipulations.
He might have set this up to sway her, but she wasn’t going to follow his lead.
Jeonghan looked at Suhyeon, he asked with his cold voice,
“You think you’re not qualified?”
“That’s correct,”
Suhyeon responded calmly.
Her face portrait no other emotion, as if the simple, straightforward reason she had given was the full truth, and nothing more.
“…….”
Jeonghan stared at Suhyeon, then let out a short, amused laugh. The brief smile that graced his handsome face quickly disappeared as he spoke again.
“You’ve achieved quite significant projects during your time at Cheonkyung. Excessive modesty doesn’t suit you.”
His expression turned cold.
Sitting beside Suhyeon, Jung Hyunwoo leaned over, whispering urgently.
“Manager Seol, just agree to take it for now. I’ll help you with the rest.”
Jung Hyunwoo’s anxiety was evident—he didn’t want this career-boosting project to slip into the hands of another team.
Suhyeon glanced at him and let out a silent sigh.
Letting her personal feelings cause harm to the company wasn’t a rational course of action, she knew that. Despite the situation, she needed to consider the bigger picture and not let her emotions cloud her judgment.
Confronted with Jeonghan so unexpectedly, Suhyeon had been on edge, but she wasn’t oblivious to the situation unfolding around her.
“I’ll take the project. I apologize for my inappropriate remarks.”
She offered an immediate apology.
To Director Han and Jung Hyunwoo, it must have seemed like she was a liability, someone who might have jeopardized a major opportunity for the company.
Regardless of Jeonghan’s true intentions, even if she planned to leave later, Suhyeon couldn’t allow her personal issues to cause significant damage to the company.
Even if it was all because of Jeonghan.
Director Han’s face immediately brightened.
“I’m relieved that Manager Seol Suhyeon will be handling it. Director.”
His gaze, now much more relaxed, turned toward Jeonghan.
“It seems that Manager Seol must have been an exceptional talent at Cheonkyung Company to catch your attention, Director.”
“Yes. Quite.”
Jeonghan responded curtly as he rose from his seat.
“The discussion seems to be mostly wrapped up, so I’ll be heading out now,”
Jeonghan said, rising from his seat.
“Oh, already?”
Director Han quickly stood as well.
“Perhaps we could share a meal together…”
He suggested hopefully.
“I have another engagement, so it would be better to do that another time,”
Jeonghan replied.
Director Han, though disappointed, stepped back with a regretful expression.
“Thank you so much for taking the time to come here despite your busy schedule. We’ll do our best to ensure that this project delivers the results you’re looking for, Director.”
Director Han bowed his head respectfully, and Seol Suhyeon and Jung Hyunwoo followed suit, standing up to bow as well.
“Until next time,” Jeonghan said, turning to leave.
Just then, the conference room door opened, and Director Han’s secretary appeared, addressing the room.
“Director, the CEO is urgently asking for you.”
“Oh! Really?”
Director Han looked momentarily flustered, but then quickly smiled at Jeonghan.
“I was planning to see you off, but it seems something urgent has come up.”
“It’s fine. You can go,”
Jeonghan replied.
“Thank you so much. Please have a safe trip, Director,”
Director Han said, bowing again before hurrying out of the room.
Jung Hyunwoo followed closely behind, and Suhyeon was about to do the same when suddenly, she felt her wrist being grabbed from behind.
“!”
Startled, she turned around, and there, standing right in front of her, was Jeonghan.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Suhyeon glared at him, trying to pull her hand away, but he didn’t budge.
Jeonghan tilted his head slightly, his gaze falling on her fingers. The moment Suhyeon realized what he was looking at, he curled his lips into a smirk.
