Jane felt like she was about to burst these days. Her mistress being too kind was a flaw in itself. The inner turmoil beneath that clear face was surely not about gentle topics!

‘She must be out of her mind. How could that girl lack any sense of propriety?’

Jane scowled and tossed the mop onto the floor. It was no secret that the two candidates for sainthood had grown close, even if Arcanda didn’t explicitly mention anything about their friendship. However, the situation might not be as rosy as her mistress imagined.

“That ambitious woman dares to covet our Lady Arcanda’s position! It’s so obvious!”

Jane couldn’t just let this slide. Just now, the conversation she had overheard while Lady Arcanda was absorbed in her thoughts resurfaced vividly.

‘But maybe Iora doesn’t like me that much. I like her so much, and that’s a shame. What should I do?’

‘Why do you think so?’

‘Well, Iora never smiles. When she talks to me, and when she talks to Ovid, I wonder if… she likes Ovid and that’s why she hates me. What should I do?’

Thinking about the crystal tears lingering in those eyes, Jane felt she could do anything for Lady Arcanda. Should she just rush and grab that wretched, ambitious noblewoman by the hair? If a maid were to harm the daughter of the Marquis von Ribandt, it wouldn’t end well. But Jane had a part of her that believed otherwise.

“That stupid b*tch surely won’t be able to accuse, blame, or punish me.”

The people in this mansion all knew how foolish and clueless Iora von Ribandt was. She seemed oblivious to the constant harassment and bullying of her maids, unaware that it was an insult. It was both amusing and frustrating to watch her pass by so absent-mindedly, without ever raising her voice in protest. So, even if there was a growing sense of her being somewhat victimized, did it count if the person herself was unaware?

“This is for Lady Arcanda, so whatever.”

How detestable. A despicable girl who relentlessly clung to her desire for sainthood, now even getting jealous of Lady Arcanda for being close to the Crown Prince. Jane scowled fiercely as she swallowed her curses.

‘Humph! She doesn’t even know her place!’

Her skin and appearance had been forgivable as an honored member of a high-ranking noble family, but even that had long since become ugly. Since the prince declared their engagement annulled, she had gradually lost weight, and at times, she seemed so frail and despondent that she appeared like a walking corpse, startling anyone who noticed. How could anyone dream of becoming a saint in such a situation? Wasn’t a saint supposed to be the consort of the prince?

‘She needs to know her place!’

Stomping along, Jane reached a quiet hallway and quickly scanned her surroundings. She glanced at the door to Iora’s classroom. It was quiet, so the teacher must have left. Sure enough, when she peered through the pane of glass, she saw a girl with silver hair in the room.

“Now, look here!” Jane shouted, flinging the door wide open.

The round eyes staring back didn’t seem as intimidating as she’d anticipated, causing her to pause for a moment, but she quickly shut the door and spoke up.

“I’m Lady Arcanda’s maid. I’ve come to talk to you, Miss Iora.”

“…Why would Lady Arcanda’s maid come to me?”

“Please. Please don’t act like you don’t know what you’re doing!”

“What did you just say?”

That calm voice didn’t sound stuttered or foolish, making Jane hesitate momentarily before steeling herself. There was no one else to give her a reality check and there was no way that idiot could punish her herself.

What’s the point of her being nobility? She’s such a moron.

Jane frowned. “Do you know how many times you’ve interrupted them? You’ve ruined two dates already. How can someone be so tactless? Are you doing it on purpose?”

“I ruined… a date? Who?”

“Of course!”

She didn’t know she was causing trouble? How disgustingly innocent she pretended to be. Jane snorted. How many times had she passed by Arcanda and Ovid, acting clueless with that blank expression? Just so the kind saint couldn’t pass her by without calling out to her!

“Even if His Highness the Crown Prince is being so nice, you should give up your empty dreams. You’re not a saint!”
