The Answer to a Cheating (Ex)Husband is Remarriage - Chapter 15
The First Prince, who had always borne wounds, bloodstains, and bandages, appeared at the Second Prince’s wedding ceremony looking immaculate.
People marveled at the First Prince’s beauty when he was properly dressed. His gleaming golden hair, as if melted from pure gold, the golden epaulettes on his broad shoulders, and his sturdy chest adorned with countless medals. Everything about him drew in everyone’s gaze.
Yet Euclid’s eyes focused on only one place: the platform where the bride and groom stood.
Throughout the ceremony, Euclid watched the platform with a stern expression. Even when the wedding vows ended and the bride and groom exited, his expression never softened.
If one looked only at the First Prince’s face, it seemed more like a funeral than a wedding.
While everyone else was celebrating and filled with joy, Euclid alone wore a grim countenance.
Later, Arendtert would grumble that Euclid had attended the wedding only to ruin his mood, claiming that not even in the face of a monster would Euclid glare with such ferocity.
But Sylaria could not agree with him because at the banquet, Euclid had offered her words of blessing.
“Congratulations on your marriage.”
The First Prince said this in a serious and composed tone, as always casting his gaze away from Sylaria.
Then, at some point, he drew a deep breath. Suddenly, he turned his head and looked at her deeply, as if engraving her image into his eyes.
“I respect your choice. That’s what you decided. So…”
A choice? What in the world did he mean by respecting her choice? Just as Sylaria was about to ask—
“You have to be happy.”
The First Prince ended the conversation.
If only Arendtert hadn’t been at her side then, nudging her in the waist and signaling her to move on, telling her to wrap up the guest greetings…
Would she have been able to find out what Euclid meant, what the ‘choice’ he spoke of was? …Perhaps not.
Because as soon as he finished those words, Euclid disappeared.
He vanished, just like that.
After Sylaria’s wedding day, Euclid disappeared without a trace. Occasionally, only rumors that he was obsessed with hunting monsters would reach her.
He returned to the palace only one day each year.
That day was always the annual wedding anniversary ball of the Second Prince and his wife. Each time, he would offer his congratulations to Sylaria and then disappear again.
‘Come to think of it, why did the First Prince attend only that ball? He didn’t even get along with Arendtert.’
Sylaria gazed quietly at the man sitting across from her in the carriage.
‘Was there something else that happened that day?’
At the time, she never thought about it. She hadn’t had the presence of mind to spare any thought for Euclid.
In her previous life, Sylaria was overwhelmed by simply surviving.
Arendtert’s cold attitude, which had changed after their marriage, the ostracism of high society within the imperial family, and the Empress’s constant bullying… All of it made it a struggle to get through each day.
So it was only natural that she had no time or energy to pay attention to the First Prince, whom she’d only seen a handful of times.
“…So, Lady Sylaria Rainier.”
“Yes?”
“You don’t mind getting involved with me?”
Lost in thought, Sylaria blinked her large eyes at the sudden question. Euclid, fiddling with his thick, solid wrist, spoke,
“It isn’t easy for a royal to find a Purifier whose constitution matches. That’s why I’ve managed without one until now.”
Euclid lowered his hand and gently overlapped it with Sylaria’s. The moment their hands touched, a faint lilac shimmer bloomed.
Euclid closed his eyes as if savoring the light of purification. Then, slowly lifting his eyelids, he spoke,
“This is the first time in my life. Something like this.”
Euclid’s voice trembled slightly, as if feeling a thrill. He gently withdrew his hand.
“Lady Sylaria Rainier, you cannot imagine what meeting you means to me.”
Euclid spoke with sincere eyes. Unlike in her previous life, now he looked directly at her every time.
Sylaria’s reflection was captured in the deep blue of his eyes, blue as the sea at dawn.
“You’re important to me. Much more than you think. I’m actually more worried that you’ll find being involved with me to be troublesome.”
