“Of course it’s fine.”

Sylaria gave a faint smile. Then she watched as Grizelle greeted Arendtert with an ardent look in her eyes.

Grizelle blushed as she gazed at the well-dressed Second Prince.

While exchanging pleasantries with Arendtert, her gaze suddenly shot sharply toward Sylaria.

‘Sorry about this, Grizelle.’

Pretending not to notice Grizelle’s envious look, Sylaria reached for the table.

Unfortunately, the vivid memory in Sylaria’s mind was clearly not just a dream.

After all, every scheme Grizelle was about to attempt was already in the palm of her hand.

For example—like this.

Sylaria swiftly flicked away Grizelle’s hand as she tried to secretly spill wine on her. As a result, Grizelle’s hand bounced away, and the wine glass rolled in the opposite direction.

“Kyaa!”

The wine Grizelle meant to spill on Sylaria’s dress ended up staining her own instead. When a red splotch appeared on the hem of her white skirt, Grizelle’s face crumpled in distress.

“Ah, seriously!”

“Oh dear, you should be more careful. Didn’t you say it was a borrowed dress?”

“……”

Grizelle’s face turned bright red as she dabbed at her skirt with a handkerchief. Having been thoroughly humiliated in front of the Second Prince, her eyes even filled with tears.

‘As if I’d let myself fall for that again.’

Sylaria’s pale violet eyes flashed coldly. But in the next instant, she changed her expression to one of concern.

“Grizelle must be really nervous—it’s her first time at an imperial event. Arendt, could you look after her?”

“I suppose I can.”

Arendtert replied in a tone that said, ‘Why do I have to take care of your friend?’ and kept his words short.

After entering the palace, Grizelle, with Sylaria’s help, had become as dazzling as any princess.

Compared to now, in a country dress borrowed from a provincial seamstress, the difference was night and day.

So it was only natural that Arendtert found her bothersome.

But Sylaria wanted Arendtert to get Grizelle out of the way. His opinion didn’t matter in the least.

“These shoes are uncomfortable. I’ll rest in the lounge before the dance time starts. Please take care of her, Arendt.”

She added softly, placing her hand gently on Arendtert’s shoulder, “She’s a dear friend of mine.”

Sylaria whispered languidly. The secretive gesture, coming from a fiancée who had never been coquettish before, made Arendtert’s cheek twitch.

“Leave it to me.”

“Thank you, my love.”

Sylaria spoke mockingly and turned away. She smiled as she watched Grizelle cling to her fiancé from the corner of her eye.

So it really wasn’t a dream.

Sylaria had died at the hands of her husband and her friend immediately after learning of their betrayal.

‘Right. If it had ended like that, it would’ve been too unfair.’

Sitting on the sofa in the lounge, Sylaria clenched her fist.

Of all days, she had come back to the day of her engagement to Arendtert. She was a bit dissatisfied with the timing.

Still, being before the wedding was something. It wasn’t too late to break away from Arendtert.

‘First, I have to break off the engagement.’

How could she undo the engagement with Arendtert?

He was the Second Prince. As he was competing with his half-brother, the First Prince, for the position of Crown Prince, marriage was extremely important to him.

The imperial family and the noble council had decided to crown whichever prince first found a Purifier and stabilized their holy power.

In her previous life, Arendtert had overtaken the First Prince and become Crown Prince largely thanks to this marriage.

In fact, until he became Crown Prince, Arendtert had always treated Sylaria with courtesy. Occasionally, he would even pretend to be in love with her out of goodwill.

To Arendtert, Sylaria was a fish in his pond that he absolutely couldn’t let go.

‘Arendtert won’t break off the engagement easily.’

Sylaria pondered deeply. She wanted to get rid of Arendtert as soon as possible and see her younger sister Elenia.

‘Elenia wasn’t able to come today because of a heart attack.’

Sylaria rose with a grave expression.

There was no point in moping in the lounge. Since she was already in the palace, she decided to first look for a reason Arendtert would agree to break off the engagement.

She had just reached that conclusion and opened the lounge door when—

BAM!

There was a heavy blow, followed by the sound of someone collapsing.
