Prologue

Empire Year 1287, February.

Abner Territory.

“This is the last agenda of the day. It’s a petition from the outskirts of the territory, in the Evehill region to the southeast….”

The expression on Lyung’s face changed subtly as he received the envelope.

“A local orphanage. How did this even come to me?”

Petitions sent from orphanages were typically under the jurisdiction of local governors.

It was rare for them to reach the capital city.

Everyone knew that the position of a Lord was anything but idle.

“It’s probably because of the seal on the envelope.”

His gaze slowly scanned the envelope.

The seal, made of melted blue wax, bore the emblem of the Abner family—a lion.

So far, so good.

Those who used lions as seals were scattered throughout the territory.

What caught his eye were two crossing swords just below.

To be precise, there were words faintly engraved on the sword blades…

‘Altus Kraum.’

An ancient language meaning ‘profound secret.’

“So, this came from the orphanage?”

Lord Lyung picked up a letter opener.

The significance of the seal was far from trivial.

An emblem with ancient language inscriptions was given secretly only to trusted governors or subordinates.

And this emblem was not something he had personally granted.

“Even a clumsy imitation of a confidential seal wasn’t enough. They sent it directly to the capital.”

The blade slit through the seal and paper.

Soon after, a thin piece of parchment emerged.

To the most powerful Master of Abner, who protects the Taranta Empire,

Duke Sharon Mishellian Abner.

It began with a very formal greeting.

This is Anellia from Eve Hill Orphanage.

I am only four years old, but I’m a prodigy.

I’m confident in magic and medicine!

I believe I can be of assistance to the Abner family with this.
