The Baby Who Regressed Refuses Childcare - Chapter 12
“Gasp…!!”
I sprang up from my seat and blinked blankly.
The room was adorned with luxurious furnishings—a continuously waxed and well-maintained parquet floor covered with a furry carpet.
“It seems you had a nightmare.”
On the opposite side, Sharon Abner was sitting comfortably on an armchair on the carpet, crossing her legs.
“What kind of dream makes you talk in your sleep so loudly?”
She breathed out roughly and covered her mouth with her hand.
‘It’s a dream. Yes, it’s all just a dream.’
Wendell, who was next to me, offered a cup filled with water.
However, I couldn’t easily accept the water.
Looking out the window, I realized it was already late at night.
I was in an unfamiliar place, and I was with Sharon Abner.
Once I grasped the situation, a frightened voice escaped me involuntarily.
“I-Is it now…?”
One of Sharon Abner’s eyebrows raised slightly.
Wendell also looked at me with a puzzled expression.
I stammered my words.
“The letter… from the orphanage… I didn’t ask anything… a few days ago.”
I had written a letter to Sharon Abner a few days ago, asking her to take me with her, as it could be a help to the Abner family.
Sharon Abner had agreed to my request.
The fact that I was now here and not at Longton Mansion was evidence of that.
However, there were still unresolved issues between us.
“Y-Your Grace.”
When I called Sharon Abner, her face stiffened slightly.
I swallowed my saliva inwardly.
From now on, I need to be calm and composed.
“I-I’m sure you have many questions for me. I, I know everything.”
Sharon Abner frowned, but she soon responded with her fingers intertwined.
“Is that so?”
Her elegant figure then leaned toward me.
“If you have no questions, wouldn’t it be strange instead?”
I nodded as if I had expected that.
“But Lia told me everything in advance.”
Wendell looked at me again.
I pointed to the crumpled piece of paper Sharon Abner held in her hand.
It was the letter I wrote.
I’ll be a great help to the Abner family if you promise not to ask anything.
At first, I hesitated.
I knew how to deliver the letter, but what on earth should I have written?
The fact that I was currently four years old was the biggest issue at hand.
Being only four years old severely limited what I could say to the Lord of the territory. Nevertheless, I had to find a way to make Sharon Abner visit the Eve Hill Orphanage.
What should I have written?
What words would make Sharon Abner interested and come to rescue me?
No matter how much I thought about it, no good ideas came to mind.
So, I reached that conclusion.
“Firstly, let’s not lie.”
There’s no point in making up things; it might just backfire later.
There’s a risk of being misunderstood as a spy for the Longton side, and it’s better to be an honest child than to weave a web of lies.
“So, there’s only one answer left.”
To willingly become a child who keeps secrets.
Being straightforward would be better than constantly spinning lies.
It was better to cleanly draw a line and say, “Don’t ask.”
“Who do you think I am?” Sharon Abner’s rigid voice reached my ears.
“Eve Hill Youth Study Room, the end of Alley 2, at the intersection. Up to the fruit store.”
Her voice was very low and cold.
“All the places you mentioned in the letter were locations where Longton’s spies gathered. Even the fruit store worker was directly dispatched by the intelligence headquarters.”
“But the one who provided all this information is a four-year-old from the local orphanage. Can you imagine there being nothing curious about that?”
Cold sweat beaded under my tightly clenched fist.
“But…”
The reason for remembering this information was simple.
In my past life, I had once returned to the Eve Hill area, crossing the territory boundary.
“At that time, I happened to discover that Longton’s spies were staying in the vicinity. I didn’t think much of it back then.”
At the present moment, all this information proved to be very useful, especially to Sharon Abner, who had an antagonistic relationship with Lambert Longton.
“And there was nothing better to quickly gain trust about me in a short period.”
Sharon Abner was an ambitious woman who wanted to establish her family at the pinnacle of the empire.
To achieve that, she had to suppress the rival Longton family.
I spoke with a trembling voice like a scared lamb,
“B-but, a promise is a promise.”
Looking at the silent Sharon Abner, who didn’t answer, I continued with difficulty,
“If you drive me away, won’t it be bad for the Duke too? I’m very smart; people say I’m a genius. Really.”
