The Baby Who Regressed Refuses Childcare - Chapter 22
Then, they raised their heads in a hurry.
“Oh, no! It’s not like that.”
“We came to bring the things you might need, and also, we thought of taking you to the dining room….”
“Things I need?”
At that moment, a slightly cool breeze swept through the corridor.
Soya swiftly took out a small indoor and outdoor coat from the basket and put it over my shoulders.
I was momentarily taken aback by her skillful hands but quickly shifted my gaze back to the basket.
Upon closer inspection, it was filled with various toys and clothes.
‘But not just one, huh?’
There were two toy baskets and three clothing baskets.
My mouth dropped open in surprise, but then Mielle spoke up.
“We should have come earlier, but we didn’t know if you were awake. We’ve been busy since dawn. A cute guest arrived, and we couldn’t just leave things as they were, right? Everyone pitched in for a thorough cleaning….”
“Mi-Mielle. It’s not the time to explain that now.”
Mielle closed her mouth, then laughed awkwardly.
“Oh, I-I’m sorry.”
Then she quickly picked me up.
“Hungry, aren’t you? Let’s go eat right away. Soya, please put the luggage inside,” Mielle said.
Soya scooped up the five baskets and carried them into the room.
Mielle looked down at me with a lifted smile and said,
“More importantly, why would you think it’s not allowed to come out of the room?”
I hesitated to speak.
“Well, you see….”
‘Well, if I roam outside, people will feel uncomfortable.’
At least that was the case at Longton Mansion.
Even I thought that the residents of the mansion wouldn’t like outsiders wandering around.
Then, Mielle’s affectionate voice penetrated my ears.
“Little baby, you can do whatever you want here, except dangerous things.”
I stared blankly at Mielle.
“Master probably asked someone to accompany you because he wouldn’t want you to get lost or injured.”
Mielle gently caressed my shoulder.
Was it because of the coat Soya put on me?
The warm and soft texture lingered on my skin.
After Soya left with the luggage, Mielle brightened the mood.
“Well then, shall we really go eat now?”
I blinked, in a strange mood.
Holding me, Mielle cheerfully led the way to the dining room.
The first meal in the mansion made me feel bloated.
Somehow, the food didn’t sit well in my stomach.
“Soya…!”
Moreover, the curious glances from people who had subtly peeked their heads out from the kitchen bothered me.
‘Meunière!! It seems you like Meunière, so let me bring it closer!’
‘Meunière!’
‘Or perhaps a lamb and mushroom soup!’
The chef in the kitchen was a hearty, middle-aged man.
Wearing an incredibly large chef’s hat, he had been gesturing and signaling towards us for a while.
“Yeah, that one! Place that plate a bit closer!”
Soya diligently followed the chef’s instructions.
“Oh, please try this, Young Lady. It’s veal, incredibly tender, so you only need to chew twice and swallow.”
“Okay….”
I awkwardly reached the fork toward the veal dish.
However, I soon pulled the fork back.
‘…You won’t eat that either?’
‘Did you really cook properly?’
‘What are you talking about? You smelled it earlier too. It was almost the best dish of my life!’
Voices from the kitchen were buzzing around.
I looked down at the splendid dishes in a daze.
This was my first meal at the mansion.
Although I wanted to show that I ate anything well, not wanting to become a picky child…
‘What should I do with this uneasy feeling in my stomach?’
Soya scrutinized my complexion.
Mielle, who had been restless, pacing, quietly asked Soya,
“Could it be that the Young Lady is feeling unwell? Maybe we should call the butler just in case?”
“Yes, perhaps. It might be a good idea.”
I quickly turned to Mielle.
“Uh, I’m not really sick…!”
However, Mielle had already left the dining room.
