The Baby Who Regressed Refuses Childcare - Chapter 27
“Welcome to the main building, Young Lady.”
I courteously gave a deep bow to the elderly man who showed me respect.
“How have you been, Grandpa Housekeeper?”
Roger, the butler of the Abner family, was a small, neatly-presented, handsome old gentleman.
He offered me a smile.
“I’ve been well. And yourself, Young Lady? How are you finding life in the East Wing?”
“Yes.”
I glanced back at Mielle and Soya behind me.
“I’ve been doing well, thanks to Mielle unnie and Soya unnie.”
Then, pointing towards the distant garden where the kitchen staff were gathered,
“The food is incredibly delicious, I really enjoy it.”
“Hehehe.”
Roger laughed heartily.
I too chuckled, following his lead.
A few days earlier, I had resolved to at least meet the standards set by Hiyana.
I had been diligently executing my plan.
I had already made a good impression on most of the mansion’s servants and grown closer to the kitchen staff.
This was the result of persistently asking Mielle and Soya to take walks from time to time.
This was my ‘Operation Winning Allies in the Abner Mansion.’
There was a straightforward reason for such a plan.
Life never flows at will.
In other words, nothing is predictable.
Especially in my previous life, this was exceptionally true.
When I was born, I had no parents.
Then one day in the orphanage, I suddenly became a daughter of the Longton family.
And just as the family’s own daughter returned, I found myself alone.
The end even came unexpectedly through poisoning.
‘But this is my second chance.’
I had learned that intelligence alone is futile without good interpersonal relationships.
Therefore, my goal in this life was to realize the dreams unfulfilled in my last life.
‘This time, perhaps, I’ll become the head of the Institute of Alchemy, or even the Master of the Magic Tower.’
Even if I couldn’t reach those lofty goals, at the very least, I didn’t want others to snatch away what I had achieved.
For that, I needed to establish a reputation in the academic world in my name. Once I gained some renown, like other scholars, I would be able to wield influence…
‘After I grow up a bit, I’ll be able to freely conduct the research I want, right?’
For instance, the reasons behind my regression.
‘I’m sure I saw a paper arguing regression is a type of magic.’
I was curious if my regression was somehow related to magic.
‘First, I need to study under the Abner name and perhaps even establish an academic society with it.’
It was a promise to be a help to the Abners if they took me in.
That was my vow.
While I’m unsure about other things, that promise, I intended to keep at all costs.
‘Sharon Abner was the only person in my past life who recognized me.’
Moreover, the seal she gave me effectively saved me in this life.
‘Let’s do at least as much as I revived the Longton family’s fortune in my past life.’
Since the Abner family was ignorant about magic, with a little effort, I could greatly advance their standing in the magic industry.
When I reached the age to be independent, I planned to leave the ducal family without hesitation.
After that, it’s all about living well and comfortably, doing whatever I want to do.
“You’ve been standing for quite a while, Young Lady. Let’s go inside.”
That’s when Roger gestured towards the entrance of the mansion with one hand.
I hurriedly walked over and firmly grasped Roger’s hand.
“Yes! Grandpa!”
Roger looked down at me with wide eyes.
“Yes, of course.”
But then, as if nothing had happened, he smiled kindly and nodded his head.
His wrinkled, warm hand firmly wrapped around mine.
