The Baby Who Regressed Refuses Childcare - Chapter 31
“M-miss Ruby?”
Mielle and Soya looked to the doorway in surprise.
There stood Ruby, standing tall and proud.
She quickly surveyed the common room before advancing toward me, who was propped against the sofa.
“Wow, I found you quicker than expected, didn’t I!”
However, she soon halted, her eyes narrowing as they scanned the surroundings.
The furniture was modest compared to the rest of the room.
Faded wallpaper, worn rugs on the floor.
This was an employee break room.
Ruby clasped her nose and muttered,
“…..Ugh. The scent of commoners.”
Unwittingly, my mouth fell open slightly in response to her remark.
‘Like mother, like daughter,’ I thought.
In the meantime, Ruby beckoned me over.
“You. Come to me. I do not wish to go in there.”
I quickly hid my expression.
Then I slid off the couch reluctantly.
As I approached, Ruby’s face lit up with a strange, triumphant smile.
“You seem to be rather submissive? I was concerned you might be insolent.”
“Eh…… But you know …….”
I began timidly, and Ruby’s expression soured.
I hesitated before gesturing for her to come closer.
She seemed hesitant for a moment but then cautiously leaned in toward me.
I whispered directly into her ear.
“Could that perhaps be your smell, Unnie…?”
Ruby stood stock-still.
She stared at me in disbelief.
“What?”
Pretending to be confused, I scratched my head.
“Well, you mentioned it smells here. Lia doesn’t smell at all.”
I then fixed my gaze intently on Ruby.
“That would imply the bad smell must surely be coming from…”
Ruby’s face flushed a deep red from the bottom up.
With a magnanimous expression, as if to tell her not to worry, I smiled at Ruby.
“Don’t worry, sister. You just forgot to brush your teeth, right? Don’t worry! I’ll lend you my toothpaste!”

“M-m-mother!”
Camilla quickly turned her head at the sound of Ruby’s voice.
There at the entrance to the reception room stood her daughter, her face flushed red.
“Ruby!”
Camilla rose abruptly from her seat and quickly approached to check on her child.
She’d been exploring the mansion, and her beautifully braided hair was slightly disheveled from wherever she’d been running.
“That child. Really, really…!”
Ruby shrieked, unable to contain her anger.
“How dare she, a mere commoner, an orphan, to me!!”
Camilla’s eyes widened.
“To you? Did that crazy b*tch hit you?!”
Ruby hesitated.
Then she recalled the situation just moments ago.
“What, what did she say?!”
Ruby Coel.
The only precious daughter of the Coel family.
A smart and bright child who always got what she wanted.
‘The Duke Abner? In the end, just another woman busy with her husband’s leftovers, a mere accessory in society.’
Ruby always trusted and followed her mother, Camilla.
‘This is what money is for, Ruby. To show your power.’
‘To show it?’
‘Yes. There’s nothing in this world that can’t be bought with money! Look at your mother, even managed to get Sharon Abner’s favor with it.’
Sharon Abner.
The current Duke of the Abner family, but strip away the title, and she’s nothing more than a crippled old woman.
‘That woman’s ambition is too grand; she won’t abandon her family. At least not to hand it over to Jaden Abner.’
What would happen if a smart and beautiful Ruby appeared before such a woman?
‘Just do as you do with me. Do you think duchy titles come by easily? Sharon is a woman too. She’s had enough trouble with the death of her daughter and her own unruly son.’
‘Is that so?’
‘Of course! And given her age, rumors about her looking for a successor might be true. From what I see, that position is yours.’
Ruby was truly convinced .
‘Who wouldn’t like a child as pretty and smart as me?’
She was sure she’d one day live with the Abners and all the precious things of the Abner family would become hers.
But why….
