The Baby Who Regressed Refuses Childcare - Chapter 8
Duke Lambert Longton glanced out of the barracks with a heavy heart.
Anellia, who was surrounded by soldiers in the distance, was visible.
“That child, how old is she?”
“She’s four years old. Her birthday is in a few months, so she’ll be five soon.”
“She was found in the wilderness just after birth.”
“That’s correct. She’s been living here ever since, and it’s only been a few months since she started visiting the bookstore in town.”
“She memorized countless magical and medical books in those few months.”
The butler fell silent.
“She’s a highly valuable child. It would be strange if we were able to get her easily. But the problem is that we are against Abner, who has a slow information network.”
He raised his gaze and glanced around the barracks.
“And, by the way, what was that about the letter earlier? The child seemed to talk about the letter as if she was sending it to Abner as a mother.”
A young administrator hesitated before speaking.
“Sometimes orphanage children write thank-you letters to nobles.”
“Are you saying that Sharon Abner reads all those letters?”
“Of course not. But she might have read it out of curiosity because the child is known for being intelligent in the area.”
Another administrator interjected.
“But they said the contents were nothing special. When I asked the orphanage teacher, they said it seemed like the child wrote about how to catch mice in the letter…”
Lambert Longton nodded slowly.
“So, she meant that she would catch the little mice.”
“Yes. Looking at this, she just seems like an ordinary child. And Sharon Abner, who encourages her, is also strange…”
“No. She is by no means ordinary.”
Lambert Longton interrupted the administrator.
“But the contents were nothing special. When I asked the orphanage teacher, it seemed like the child wrote about how to catch mice in the letter…”
Lambert Longton nodded slowly.

“Yes. Looking at this, she just seems like an ordinary child. And Sharon Abner, who encourages her, is also strange…”
“No. She’s definitely not ordinary.”
Lambert Longton interrupted the administrator.
“At the age of four, she’s devoured dozens of magical books that even scholars find challenging. Does that seem ordinary to you?”
His eyes flickered with grim determination.
“That child must become a Longton. She has a brilliant mind, and everything is perfect, even the fact that she’s a girl.”
“Then how…”
Lambert Longton stood up.
“That child must never fall into the hands of the lioness. Abner should continue to rot as the barren wasteland of magic, as she has been all this time.”
“But, Your Grace, didn’t you hear what Sharon Abner said a while ago? That woman has become the child’s guardian. It seems quite difficult for us to adopt the child according to our plan…”
“Then kill her.”
The administrators exchanged perplexed glances.
However, Lambert Longton was resolute.
“It is not easy to hand over such people. If we can’t have her, it’s better to kill her to eliminate the future consequences. Have you all forgotten the troubles Longton faced because of Isabelle Abner?”
Isabelle Abner.
Sharon Abner’s daughter and a promising talent in the field of magical studies.
Until she died at a young age, Lambert Longton always felt uneasy.
He knew Isabelle Abner’s potential better than anyone.
“If that woman hadn’t died prematurely, Longton wouldn’t have gained its current position.”
She was much wiser and more intelligent than her brother, Jaden Abner.
Sharon Abner also seemed to favor Isabelle over Jaden in terms of inheriting the family position.
“It’s a great relief that she’s dead.”
If Isabelle Abner were still alive, she might have easily secured a place at the Imperial Academy of Alchemy by now.
Then, the Abner family would have prospered much more than it does now.
Their position in the system would have been stronger, and perhaps they could have pioneered the field of magical studies.
“That assassin won’t miss a second chance.”
Anellia.
That child had the potential to lead the Abner family in a new direction, breaking the tradition of magical studies being barren.
Lambert Longton muttered coldly.
“Yes, it seems there’s no choice but to kill her.”
