The Baddest Villainess Is Back - Chapter 14
‘Weird. We haven’t had any significant interactions at this point.’
A sensitive person might naturally feel hurt and upset, but she never expected him to be so resolute, even going as far as shaking his head so resolutely.
The Arma in Roxelyn’s memory was always the one who granted her wishes.
If she wanted to do this, he’d do it for her. If he wanted to do that, he’d make sure she’d get it.
And eventually…
Arma fled with her, protected her when she was chased by the Imperial Guard, and died.
Roxelyn used his death as an opportunity to escape.
The world called her the heartless woman who used the naive Third Prince as bait.
Roxelyn was heavily indebted to Arma.
So, she hoped he would meet a good person and find some happiness.
Unable to express these thoughts, Roxelyn shrugged her shoulders after a short contemplation.
“I just got tired of you.”
“…What?”
She withdrew her hand from his grip, speaking casually.
“It’s not fun with you. You’re frail, timid, and the Third Prince who has no chance of becoming the emperor.”
He looked at her as if he had been wounded when she chuckled and shrugged. His sapphire-like beautiful blue eyes were shaking.
“…Rox, you don’t like me?”
“So, I’m sorry, but I would appreciate it if you let me go. I prefer someone more promising, with a strong sense of self and a masculine charm, and a bit rough around the edges.”
Roxelyn recited her ‘ideal type’, the opposite of Arma.
Honestly though, this wasn’t her ideal type.
Despite that, Arma’s pale face, even whiter than usual, became more strained.
Looking at the frozen man who was at a complete loss of words, she stood up.
“If it’s difficult for you to make time with His Majesty for me, then I have nothing more to discuss with you, Your Highness.”
She placed the wide-brimmed hat, which she had temporarily set aside, back on her head.
“I’ll ask His Majesty for time through a different route. Still, it was interesting until now.”
“L-Lady Roxelyn.”
Her nonchalant attempt to leave the reception room was halted by his trembling voice.
“Don’t go.”
Roxelyn didn’t look back.
Just as she was about to open the door, she felt the sleeve of her dress weakly caught.
“I…!”
Before she knew it, Arma was now standing behind her.
“I will arrange a meeting with Father for you. If that’s what you want, I will do it.”
There was a time when Roxelyn had only this blindly devoted man.
A person who stayed by her side even when no one believed in her. Thinking back, she had relied on him quite a bit.
It was from him that she had learned several ways to escape.
“Thank you.”
“…No, it’s because of my own shortcomings.”
At the innocent man’s words, Roxelyn pursed her lips and then slowly closed her mouth.
She hadn’t meant to say things that would hurt him, not because she disliked him. Just resent me.
If she wanted, she could have said many other things, but she kept them to herself.
This was just right.
“I’ll be off now.”
“Yes. I… Later, if we were to part ways, could we… could we perhaps remain friends?”
Innocent words filled with regret made Roxelyn narrow her eyes, then she opened the door wide.
“Unless you want to tarnish my honor, it would be better if we didn’t.”
“Oh…”
Without listening to more, Roxelyn turned away.
As she walked away briskly, she sighed when she sensed someone following her.
Attempting to increase her speed, she stopped abruptly when she saw figures approaching from the opposite corridor.
“Oh, who do we have here? It’s a low-quality pair that’s the best match in the world, right?”
She soon realized the identity of that sarcastic voice’s owner.
It was the Second Prince.
