The Beast of the Albard Mansion - Chapter 45
That night was unbelievably stimulating. As soon as I opened my eyes in the morning, I recalled what had happened the night before. All I could do was let out an exclamation. How could something so hot and passionate exist? I tried to calm my pounding heart as I looked at the arm draped heavily over me.
Desi was sleeping next to me.
Desi, who always insisted on sleeping under the bed, was now beside me. I turned my head to observe Desi’s sleeping face. Seeing Desi sleeping next to me was so moving that it gave me goosebumps.
A wave of emotions surged through me, and I clenched my fists to hold back my feelings. His soft breathing, the warm heat, the brownish, thick eyelashes under the morning sun, and even his adorable ears—all of it stirred something deep within me.
I wanted to savor this feeling for a long time, but I had to get up quickly. That made the moment even more precious.
“Desi.”
I called him softly.
Desi’s ears twitched in response. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled brightly as soon as he saw me. His lips curved up, and his eyes crinkled into half-moons. It was a smile full of happiness.
My heart pounded heavily again.
Desi let out a soft groan and hugged me tightly.
“Ugh, we need to get up, Desi.”
He rubbed his cheek against my shoulder, not wanting to get up. I struggled to hold his large body that was snuggling into my arms.
“Oh, you’re heavy.”
He was heavy, but I couldn’t help but laugh. I patted Desi’s shoulder a few times before finally getting out of bed. It was almost time for the maid to come.
With guests in the house, they would surely come in early to get me ready.
Desi sat on the bed, watching me closely. He followed my every move with his eyes, from putting on my nightgown that had fallen on the floor to freshening up with some water.
His posture, with elbows on his knees and his back hunched over, seemed rather defiant and even intimidating. Especially with his large build and numerous scars.
“Desi, sit up straight.”
I couldn’t help but scold him. I worried that he might be walking around the village like that. With his slightly upturned eyes, numerous scars, and large frame, people who didn’t know him might misunderstand. I didn’t want Desi to be seen badly. Despite his appearance, he was kind, gentle, and sweet.
Desi raised an eyebrow before slowly straightening his back. I smiled in satisfaction and praised him.
“Good boy.”
Desi mimicked my smile, raising one corner of his mouth to reveal a glimpse of his sharp canine, making him look anything but harmless.
He used to have some cute traits when he was younger… Although Desi still did many cute things, his exterior had grown fierce. It was like watching a cute puppy grow into a majestic full-fledged canine.
“Desi, the maids will be here soon.”
Desi could no longer fit under the bed because he had grown too big. When he tried, the bed would shake, and he would get stuck halfway. So now, Desi left the room before the maids arrived.
Desi wandered around the room, reluctant to leave, and then suddenly hugged me tightly. He rubbed his chin on the top of my head, whining.
“Do I have to go? Can’t we just eat in the room? I don’t want to go out today.”
Desi’s cuteness made my heart soften. But it wasn’t something I could decide on my own. I recalled the dinner party from the night before that I had forgotten about.
That moment when it felt like my existence was being torn apart. Even though I was sitting right in front of them, I felt erased. A time when I felt like a commodity to be bought and sold. Though Desi’s presence had healed me, remembering it brought my mood down again. Thinking about how they treated me made me still feel humiliated.
What should I do now? I had to think. Now that I had overcome the wound and somewhat escaped the shame, it was time to use my head.
“Desi, guests came last night. I have to go out. The maids will be here soon to get me ready.”
“Your sister’s guests, right?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
They were initially Sister’s guests, but the moment she stormed out, they became mine—unwelcome guests.
