The Contract Wife Tries to Leave - Chapter 23
“…Hmpf.”
As the dense pheromones of the hyper-dominant alpha enveloped her, Johanna let out a moan without realizing it.
She quickly covered her mouth, but she couldn’t stop the tingling sensation that spread through her body, making her hands and feet twitch.
It smelled like the cold winter air. Sharp like ice shards, yet as comforting as soft snowflakes.
Her rationality gradually blurred. Johanna, trembling, half-opened her eyes and looked up at him, the alpha. The lock that had tightly sealed away her senses had long since been undone by the relentless barrage of pheromones. The sweet scent of an omega enticing an alpha began to ooze from her.
Leonid, sensing this, raised one eyebrow, then lowered his head closer to Johanna’s neck.
It was a sweet, fragrant floral scent, like a blend of peaches and oranges. Leonid closed his eyes, savoring the aroma. It was sweeter and more seductive than any omega pheromone he had ever encountered.
Even though he desperately didn’t want to touch an omega, his body reacted involuntarily.
Ha, damn it.
He suppressed a rough curse, baring his teeth in a grin. As it turned out, the compatibility of their pheromones was surprisingly good. He had always found omega pheromones utterly disgusting and tiresome.
“Whoo…”
Leonid exhaled deeply and slowly straightened his upper body. He then pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands and neck.
Even without direct contact, he inevitably felt disgusted. It was as if the vulgar omega pheromones were smeared all over his skin.
The woman was still staring at him with hazy eyes, trembling as if struck by an electric current. Despite his efforts to moderate the effect, such a reaction indicated she was undoubtedly a naturally sensitive omega.
Leonid, hiding his habitual contempt for omegas, scanned her from head to toe. His cold gaze contrasted sharply with his flushed, fierce expression.
“Congratulations, Miss Lucerne.”
The handkerchief fell from his hand and landed on the woman’s blouse.
“Just sign the contract as it is. My assistant will give you the signing bonus on your way out, so be sure to receive it.”
The damn arousal made his lower body ache and feel heavy. Leonid easily suppressed the impulse that had risen to the top of his head and turned his back.
He walked straight to the door and left the reception room without looking back once.
* * *
“Johanna! Are you okay?”
Victoria entered the reception room to comfort Johanna, who had been out of sorts for a while.
Johanna felt quite relieved when she saw Victoria quickly lock the door. She didn’t want anyone else to see her in such a disheveled state.
“Oh my, seeing the Marquis’s unusual expression, I had a bad feeling…”
Victoria, being a beta, couldn’t sense pheromones. However, she could easily guess what had happened from the Marquis’s flushed face, angry eyes, and the intimidating aura that made her shrink back.
“The Marquis used his pheromones on you… I’m so sorry… It must have been terrifying.”
Although it wasn’t her fault, Victoria apologized with a guilty expression. She had introduced Johanna to this job to save her from loan sharks, but she knew it was still a hard thing to handle, so she felt deeply burdened.
“Here, drink some water.”
Johanna gulped down the water Victoria handed her in one go. As the cold water washed through her insides, the heat pooled in her stomach seemed to dissipate a little.
Still finding it hard to steady herself, Johanna struggled to speak clearly.
“Thank you…”
“It’s nothing… Just rest until you feel better. I’ll make sure no one comes in.”
Victoria wiped Johanna’s damp forehead and cheeks with a handkerchief, then stood up and walked to the door.
Johanna stared blankly at her friend’s back as she opened the door slightly and talked to someone outside.
Her head was spinning so much she felt she might pass out. The violent stimulation that had shaken all her nerve cells was gradually subsiding, but the memory of the alpha’s pheromones flooding her kept replaying in her mind.
His pheromones felt even more intense than Ilian Rediess’s. She couldn’t tell if it was because she secretly had a crush on him or simply because their pheromones were highly compatible.
After a while, Victoria returned to her side, and Johanna gradually calmed down under her care.
All the while, as she wiped the cold sweat with a handkerchief and gave her water, Victoria’s face was filled with sympathy.
